What will you do during your gap year? Join the NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital Bridge Year <http://www.nyp.org/brooklyn/volunteer-opportunities/volunteer-programs/bridge-year> program and you can be a part of a select group of pre-med volunteers who will have the opportunity to learn, grow and connect while making a real difference in patients' lives.

The NYPBMH Bridge Year program is for well-rounded pre-med students who are taking a year off after college to study for the MCATs and prepare for application to medical school. The program allows participants to gain hands-on experience with patients, take part in special projects, hear directly from medical staff in small group seminars and participate in a regular MCAT study group, all while volunteering in a dynamic hospital setting.

We seek volunteers who are good communicators, empathetic and interested in productively enriching their interim year to further their healthcare goals.

Bridge Year Program
* Two, four-hour patient care shifts with direct interaction with patients and professional staff on in-patient units
* Small group conversations with physicians, nursing staff and other medical personnel
* Opportunity to participate in a MCAT study group
* Networking opportunities among cohort members
* Participation in special projects

Program Requirements
The program runs from September 2017 through May 2018. Bridge Year volunteers must commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week for patient care shifts, special projects, discussions and MCAT study.
At least one patient care shift, a two-hour seminar block and additional project hours will be scheduled Monday through Friday between 8 am and 8 pm. Participants are expected to attend all seminars.
