You are cordially invited to the University of Pittsburgh’s Pre-Medical Organization for Minority Students (POMS) Annual Pre-Health Conference on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 at the University of Pittsburgh.
POMS is a student-run organization whose purpose is to provide motivation and aid, and promote retention for those students from disadvantaged backgrounds, to help provide a vehicle for their future careers in the health professions. POMS works in concert with the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine to prepare students for academic medicine and to promote understanding and development of future goals.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Innovations in Procedure, Practice, and Care: Overcoming Obstacles in Healthcare Today.” The climate of healthcare is constantly evolving, and healthcare professionals must adapt to their circumstances by researching, creating, and innovating responses to the onslaught – epidemics, incurable disease, inadequate healthcare and healthcare availability variances among many populations. The scope of healthcare is so vast that new methods, procedures, treatments and technologies are a constant necessity. Innovation is crucial in order to respond and combat illness in our fast-paced society, especially when attempting to make high quality healthcare treatment available to everyone, everywhere. From healthcare at 30,000 ft. in the air to healthcare for those living on the streets of Pittsburgh, this experience will show glimpses into an entirely different view of the healthcare field.
A recruitment fair will be held as a part of the conference, from 4:00-5:30pm in the Assembly Room of the William Pitt Union. Dress is business casual. DINNER IS PROVIDED.
