As you navigate the application process, you might start wondering how medical schools evaluate your application. While it may seem like a mystery, many medical schools use holistic review, which is a way of evaluating experiences, attributes, and academic metrics to get a better sense of the applicant as a whole. To help define holistic review further, medical schools use 15 Core Competencies as a tool to evaluate you and your application. Don't worry! This doesn't mean there are 15 more things you need accomplish to be accepted to medical school. In fact, you're likely demonstrating many of these competencies already.

2018 MCAT Registration Information

Registration for the 2018 MCAT testing year will open on October 18 for the January-June test dates. Test dates for July-September will open for registration in February 2018.

New this year: You can start inputting your registration information several days before you select a date and location for your test. Any time between 10:00 AM ET on October 12 and 5:00 PM ET on October 17, you will be able to fill out the necessary background and biographical information, as well as complete the necessary consent forms. You will not be able to select your date and location at this time.

Starting the registration process early will allow you more time to enter your personal information and read the important MCAT policies and forms carefully before you begin searching for a test date and location on October 18. Completing your personal information and consent forms in advance does not give you priority in selecting your test date and location.

Mark Your Calendars! Minority Student Medical Career Fair

Each year, the AAMC brings together medical schools from around the country to talk with students of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and communities to explore opportunities in medicine, biomedical sciences, and other health professions. The event is designed to increase exposure for both high school and college students to better understand the path to a career in the health care professions. The career fair offers a roundtable discussion with current medical school students, an opportunity to hear stories and experiences from current physicians and medical professionals, and discuss the importance of representation in the medical field. In designing the program for the upcoming career fair in Boston, we have partnered with local colleges including Boston University School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Tufts University School of Medicine, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

All are welcome! Check out last year's event and join the conversation on social media with #FutureDocs.
