the COMIDITA study!
COMIDITA
(Cognitive
Outcomes
in
Mexican
Immigrants Dietary
Intake and
Toddler
Assessment) focuses
measuring the impact
of diet on neurocognitive
outcomes
in Columbia University
Early
Head
Start toddlers
born to
Latino immigrants
living in
New York City. Students will
work as
part
of
a multidisciplinary
team and
administer neurocognitive assessments
and behavioral
measures on
toddlers.
Interns
will have
the opportunity to
work with
faculty and
students
from public health,
psychology,
nutrition,
and social
work as
well as
the PI,
co-investigators,
and research
assistants.
Interns
will work
under
the guidance
of
Manuela Orjuela-Grimm,
the Principal
Investigator and
Assistant Professor
at Mailman
School
of
Public Health,
and Maria
Martí Castaner,
clinical child
psychologist and
fellow in the
Child
and Adolescent
Psychiatry and
Clinical
Psychology Departments
and in
the Department
of
Population and
Family
Health.
This
project
is based
in the
Department of
Epidemiology,
as well
as in
the Department
of
Population and
Family
Health at
the Mailman
School
of
Public Health,
and the
Columbia
University Head
Start.
Interns
can
expect to
play an
active role
in ongoing
data collection,
conduct neurocognitive
assessments with
toddlers (Bayley
Screener,
WPPSI IV,
Woodcock Muñoz
Picture and
Vocabulary,
and NIH
Toolbox
assessments), and
participate
actively in
weekly team
meetings.
Prospective
interns
should
have
the following
qualifications:

Native
level
Spanish
speakers
·
Comfortable
working
with toddlers
and their
mothers
·
Detail
oriented
·
Excellent
communication
skills
Undergraduate
and graduate
students
are welcome
to apply.
Students
with an
interest
in
psychology
or
neuroscience are
preferred. This
non-paid
internship will
start
in
October,
and students
should
be
available through
the summer.
