Royal Descent - New Passage

Anthropology

"“Royal blood,” i.e., direct descent from a sovereign, is frequently cited as the major criterion of royalty. Certainly, it is an important prerequisite, but biological kinship alone, however close, is not enough. An illegitimate offspring, even if he is the openly acknowledged firstborn son of a sovereign, has no claim to royal status if his mother is a commoner."
