The New York City Department of Health and Mental is seeking highly motivated, energetic individuals to join our team as Stellar Farmers Markets (SFM) Educators.

 

SFM Educators will work part-time from July-November 2018 to provide engaging, interactive nutrition education workshops at farmers markets throughout New York City. SFM educators work in teams of three or more to prepare and deliver nutrition and cooking workshops. This position is an ideal opportunity to gain skills in facilitation, enhance nutrition and culinary education skills, practice bilingual communication skills, learn more about the local food system, and connect with diverse communities throughout New York City.

 

We are seeking applicants for the following three positions:

 

• Nutrition Educator Position: The Nutrition Educator is the team leader and facilitates the nutrition portion of the workshop. The Nutrition Educator supports and encourages healthy eating behaviors among participants.

 

• Culinary Educator Position: The Culinary Educator is the chef and heads up the culinary demonstration portion of the workshop. The Culinary Educator engages participants with a delicious recipe made with local produce and demonstrates how to make it.

 

• Bilingual Educator: The Bilingual Educator acts as an essential link between the educators and non-English speaking participants by interpreting and translating the workshops. They also assist the Nutrition Educator and Culinary Educator in supporting and encouraging healthy eating behaviors among participants. We are looking for applicants fluent in English/Spanish, English/Bengali, and English/Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), and English/Russian.
