Based on your comments to a recent AAMC Premed Team Twitter Poll, we were surprised to learn that one of the most important factors when choosing a medical school is location, and more specifically, whether the school is in-state or out-of-state. Location is certainly a valuable consideration, but before ruling out medical schools based on location alone, we suggest checking out some of the most common myths about applying in-state vs out-of-state.

A committee letter is a letter authored by a pre-health committee or pre-health advisor that is intended to represent your institution's evaluation of you, and may or may not include additional letters written in support of your application. Students are often strongly encouraged to obtain a committee letter of evaluation to support their medical school application if it is available through their undergraduate or post-bacc program. We asked four pre-health advisors to give their best advice to students who are seeking a committee letter.

Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine's International/Inner City/Rural Preceptorship Program (I2CRP) brings together like-minded students who want to make an impact in underserved communities. Program Director Mary Lee Magee describes the success of one student who credits the I2CRP program with putting him on the path to treating patients in some of North Carolina's most impoverished counties.
