Bi-Lingual Research Assistant Internship

Position Description/Responsibilities: Dr. Melanie Jay, MD, MS, (Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, NYU School of Medicine) is seeking bright, motivated research interns fluent in both Spanish and English interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and obesity-related research to assist in a research project at  NYU Langone to improve  the prevention of obesity in primary care. The current trial led by both Dr. Joe Ladapo and Dr. Melanie Jay investigates the impact of financial incentives on weight management behavior and weight loss.

 

Research interns will assist in all aspects of the research including (but not limited to): conducting literature searches, recruiting patients/subjects by phone and/or mail, performing study visits, piloting materials to in primary care, data analysis, abstract and manuscript preparation, and other administrative duties. The intern will need to be a native Spanish speaker.

 

Time commitment: Part time, 10-15 hours on average required per week including weekly research team meetings currently held on Mondays at 10:15 a.m. Applicants must be able to commit to one year, including availability during the summer.

 

Benefits: This is an opportunity to gain experience working on a critical issue in healthcare and benefit from working with research team members of diverse, interdisciplinary backgrounds.  This position is part of the NYU Division of General Internal Medicine Research Intern Program, and as such the intern will have many opportunities to be mentored by team members, as well as attend conferences and lectures at NYU School of Medicine. Interns often go on to medical school, PhD programs, or paid research coordinator positions.

 

Compensation:  This is an unpaid internship. Current funding for the position cannot be promised at this time, but a modest stipend might become available. Research interns may have the opportunity to be authors on abstracts and manuscripts, depending on involvement with preparation. Upon completion of the internship, research interns can fulfill practicum requirements, gain academic credit, and/or receive letters of recommendation graduate school and job placement.
