The Peer Advising Leadership Program

Peer Advisors play an important role in the transition process for first-year students. In addition to their unique insight as successful Hunter students, peer advisors will serve as leaders in providing guidance and support to our first-year students.
Peer Advisors assist in the delivery of direct services to first-year students, especially in the areas of registration, advising, and programming.

Position Responsibilities:

·        Lead Hunter’s on-campus “Advising/Registration Sessions” for all incoming first-year students throughout the summer and winter, by presenting welcoming activities, academic advising, and registration assistance.

·        Provide guidance, resources, and basic academic advising to first-year students during their first semester.

·        Lead/participate in different programs geared towards first-year students, such as advising workshops, Welcome Week, Major Madness, and others.

·        Participate in events geared towards prospective Hunter students, such as Accepted Students Day.

·        Perform other duties as deemed necessary for the success of the first-year students.

Qualifications & Time Commitment:

·        Students must have 60 credits or above.

·        Minimum GPA of 2.75.

·        Must have a declared major.

·        Be able to commit for one year (May 2018 – April 2019).

·        Be available to work 20 hours/per week in the Summer – 8-10 hours per week during the semester.

·        Must attend the mandatory training sessions in May, August, and January.

·        Will be expected to attend weekly meetings with Asst. Director of Advising.

Pay:

·        Peer Advisors are paid $13.50 per hour.

·        Opportunities for extra hours during the semester may be possible, if the need arises.
