 ABOUT THE ROLE

Roland Foods’ Operations team manages the company’s operations from procurement through to pricing, with many functions in between.  The Operations Intern will serve in a utility role in Operations, supporting the company’s objectives through problem-solving and working cross functionally within the Logistics and Supply and Demand Planning departments. The intern will report to the Director of Global Logistics and the Associate Director of Supply and Demand Planning. who will partner identify the highest-impact projects/analyses that the intern can support.  The internship is a unique opportunity to get exposure to end-to-end operations and add value by solving real business problems across multiple functions. 

The Operations Intern will support the functions with special projects or analyses that help solve key business problems.  The intern will have the opportunity to present their analyses, insights and recommendations to the functional leaders within the Operations department. As such, the ideal candidate has strong analytical and problem-solving skills to distill insights and make sound recommendations, accompanied by polished presentation skills.  The role will get unique visibility into these other departments, providing an opportunity to learn the end-to-end mechanics of the business.

As a response to the pandemic, Roland Foods office employees have transitioned to a hybrid working schedule, requiring employees to report in-person Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to telework on Monday and Friday each week. Due to the collaborative, cross-functional nature of the organization, employees at the NY and NJ offices are required to work in-person for the abovementioned days, outside of any People & Culture-approved disability accommodation request.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

Functions that the intern could potentially support:

  • Supply Planning: performs all demand and supply planning to ensure we are purchasing the right products to optimize sales, ensure fill rate targets, and meet customer service expectations
  • Logistics: manages a complex global supply chain, importing from over 60 foreign ports and distributing through 9 warehouses in North America. 
  • Manage and/or support ad-hoc projects utilizing Excel, Tableau, SQL (purchase order inbounding prioritization, sales orders fulfillment opportunities, customer spot buy requests, quality control inventory reports, intra-warehouse transfer tracking, unreturned orders, etc.)
  • Compile data from a variety of sources to analyze logistics-related costs and other quantitative issues
  • Create and maintain Key Performance Indictor dashboards; develop and communicate actionable recommendations to improve these KPIs over time
  • Lead analytical efforts and development of tools, documents, and other resources for reporting
  • Assess current state processes and provide process improvement recommendations and actionable insights to management
  • Partner with internal teams such as Replenishment, Sales, QA, and Finance to troubleshoot and problem solve daily issues
  • Identify replenishment and procurement improvement opportunities and work with suppliers and/or internal stakeholders to implement solutions
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to team projects as needed

 QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required 

  • Pursuing a BA/BS degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Food Science and/or similar discipline with analytical bias
  • Experience demonstrating problem-solving and root-cause analysis
  • Organized & detail-oriented with the ability to learn quickly and take on diverse tasks
  • Critical and strategic thinking skills

Preferred

  • Interest and/or experience in foods, foodservice, or grocery industry a plus
  • Expertise using Excel and PowerPoint to collect and manage quantitative data
  • Ability to define, analyze, research, and communicate research findings
  • Prior experience operating within strict deadlines

 SALARY RANGE
