Dear Colleagues,

I write to remind you that the next NYC Media Seminar meets this Wednesday, April 10.  Ekaterina Zhuravskaya (Paris School of Economics) will present Reading Twitter in the Newsroom: How Social Media Affects Traditional-Media Reporting.  If you have not sent an RSVP for the seminar and wish to attend, please do so today.

I am also pleased to announce that on Wednesday, May 1, Kevin DeLuca (Yale Political Science) will present “The Decline of Evening Newspapers: Partisan Slant’s Impact on Election Results.”  There is currently no paper for the talk, but I encourage you to look at Kevin’s interesting work on newspapers and elections here: https://www.kevinmdeluca.com/.

The NYC Media Seminar meets the first Wednesday of each month during the academic year.  We gather starting at 10:00 for coffee and conversation, with the seminar running 10:30-12:00.  Past and upcoming schedules are available on the seminar web sites here and here.

Important note on logistics!   We meet this year at A Wonder Media Company, 1 Penn Plaza, New York City, located adjacent to Penn Station.  A day before the seminar our hosts will send a QR code for building access (check your spam).  With this code you can access the elevators without further ID check or processing.  Because of the need to process visitors in advance, it is essential that you RSVP to Lisa or Miklos by April 8.

The goal of the seminar is to link economists in the greater New York area working on media topics by providing a regular forum to connect with media research in economics, marketing and beyond.  The seminar is open to all researchers and draws speakers from across the US and abroad.  The seminar is jointly organized by Lisa George at Hunter College and Miklos Sarvary at Columbia Business School and has been generously supported by the Columbia Media Program.  To receive papers and updates please register for the seminar listserv by sending an email to [log in to unmask] with SUBSCRIBE MEDIANYC-L in the e-mail message body (and nothing else).

As always, please help us welcome new members by sharing this message with colleagues, students and others interested in media research.

Miklos and I look forward to seeing you Wednesday!

Lisa George, Hunter College

Miklos Sarvary, Columbia Business School
