"Urban Communities in Transition: Puerto Ricans and Gentrification in the
South Bronx" Abstract: This presentation will examine patterns of
gentrification in the South Bronx, a predominantly Puerto Rican/Latino
neighborhood. The research uses both quantitative and qualitative analyses.
The quantitative aspect uses government statistics to examine the
demographic profile and change of the neighborhood over time. The
qualitative aspect utilizes face to face interviews. Preliminary findings
suggest that gentrification is occurring in small sections of this
community.
