Job Announcement
Community Health Planner
Full-Time based in Berkeley, CA and/or Salinas, CA
Start date: September 3, 2014 (or sooner)

RAIMI + ASSOCIATES<http://www.raimiassociates.com./> is a mission-driven urban planning and public health firm with offices in Berkeley, Los Angeles, and Riverside, California. We are seeking a Community Health Planner to expand our Health in All Policies practice. The position will be located in Berkeley, but if the applicant lives in or near Salinas, CA we may be able to arrange for the individual to work remotely four days per week.
Job Description
The Community Health Planner will work on a variety of projects related to Health in All Policies, including health elements of general plans, developing educational materials, collecting and presenting health data, and working with community groups to build coalitions around health equity.

For the first year of the position, approximately half of the Community Health Planner's time will be dedicated to providing technical assistance and capacity building around health and racial equity, data literacy, urban planning, and economic development to a coalition of residents, non-profits, and government agencies in East Salinas, California. Possible activities may include supporting the development and implementation of a Resident Leadership Academy, working with community groups around equitable economic development, supporting the County's Health in All Policies Committee, and a community initiative around Health Equity & Juvenile Justice Reform. The Community Health Planner will spend up to five days per month in Salinas.

The other half of the Health Planner's time may be determined based on the individual's skills and interest, but may include working on one or more General Plan Health Elements, Health Impact Assessments, Community Plans, or Sustainability/Climate Action Plans.
Required Skills and Qualifications

•  Bachelor's degree and four years of work experience OR Master's Degree and two years of work experience in a related field

o   Our ideal candidate will have a degree in Public Health, but candidates with Public Health work experience and another degree qualify as well (other degrees include, but are not limited to: City Planning, Geography, Biostatistics, Public Policy, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Education, Latin American Studies, etc.)

o   Work experience should be in related field with a focus on health equity. Additional experience in urban planning, community engagement/organizing, and training/education is also helpful.

•  Written and spoken fluency in Spanish (at a professional level)

•  Strong written and verbal communication skills (in English and Spanish)

•  Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

•  Experience and comfort speaking with members of the public and making presentations to a diversity of audiences including residents, elected officials, planning and health professionals, and community organizations

•  Understanding of planning and public health concepts including Health in All Policies, Health Equity, Environmental Justice, Participatory Planning, Social Determinants of Health, and have a understanding of City/County governance structures

•  The ability to work independently

•  A valid CA Driver's License (car ownership is not required)

Desired Skills and Qualifications

•  Quantitative data analysis skills - Health data (CHIS and others), Census/socio-demographic, and built environment data analysis using descriptive statistics (excel), spatial analysis (GIS), and/or statistical analysis (Stata, R, SPSS, SAS)

•  Additional computer skills - Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign), ESRI ArcGIS software, web design/maintenance (e.g., Google Sites, Wordpress, SurveyMonkey, MailChimp, etc.) - Please specify your level of competency with any of these

•  Experience creating curriculums and/or conducting trainings

•  Experience completing Health Impact Assessments

•  Experience writing General Plans/Health Elements, Specific Plans, Climate Action Plans, or other policy documents

•  Experience conducting literature reviews - summarize and simplify academic studies (especially epidemiological studies)

•  Experience writing codes, ordinances, and/or resolutions

•  Experience writing Strategic Plans or Business Plans

•  Successful grant or proposal writing experience

•  Graphic design skills (posters, infographics, presentations, documents, diagrams)

Salary and Benefits
The salary will range from $55,000 to $67,000 commensurate with the level of skills and experience. Raimi + Associates offers competitive benefits including fully paid health insurance, vacation days, and sick time.
