The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is seeking an exceptional candidate to serve as the Director of the Division of Global HIV/AIDS. The Division of Global HIV/AIDS is a key implementing partner of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and has an annual operating budget of over $2 billion, primarily used to support activities performed by recipients of over 500 cooperative agreements managed by the Division. DGHA employs nearly 670 employees and approximately 1,200 locally employed staff in approximately 45 CDC country offices in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America.

The Director will:

  *   Provide scientific leadership in formulating, developing, implementing, and evaluating international HIV/AIDS surveillance, epidemiologic research, and international HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment activities

  *   Serve as principal advisor to the CGH Director and other CDC management officials on all policy and program issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment in international settings
  *   Provide consultation and leadership both internationally and domestically to public health experts, research scientists, physicians, and scientific administrators
  *   Assess state-of-the-art technology and best practices to ensure use of the highest standards and most current methodology for surveillance, prevention, care, and treatment of HIV/AIDS internationally
  *   Represent the CGH Director in meetings with other federal agencies, national and international organizations, non-governmental organizations, congressional committees, congressional staff, and OMB
  *   Hold responsibility for the day-to-day operations of DGHA

Qualifications
Applicants must possess an M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. and demonstrate:

·       High degree of public health prominence and expertise, and a distinguished record of accomplishments in the field of international HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment

·       Strong leadership experience in creating a vision; setting direction in an organization; and recruiting, developing, and retaining good, diverse staff

·       Senior management experience in directing and managing an organization, including establishing strategic plans and policies, developing and presenting budgets, organizing and prioritizing issues, and evaluating program accomplishments

·       Proven, successful experience in developing and implementing international public health policies, programs, and research in HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment

·       Proven ability to deal effectively with high-level government officials (international/national), governmental public health agencies, scientific and academic communities, national and international medical and health-related organizations, diverse private sector organizations, and non-governmental groups, media, and the public at large
