The Asthma and Pest Control Study needs YOU!

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has partnered with Montefiore Medical Center on a study to look at how health improves when cockroaches and mice -which can make asthma worse-are reduced through safe pest control in homes. The team is currently recruiting Bronx children aged 5 to 12 with persistent asthma who are living in homes with pests to receive a free, one-time integrated pest management (IPM) intervention valued at $600. In addition to the IPM treatment, families will also receive valuable information on safe pest control measures and how pest control can help kids with asthma, and up to $60 for completing 3 surveys over the course of their 1-year participation in the study.

We are currently looking for individuals to assist with our telephone recruitment. Interviews consist of:

*          a 10-minute Eligibility Screening

*          a 10-minute Consent Interview

* an Assent Interview with children between the ages of 7-12yrs, providing them with basic information about the study and giving them the opportunity to ask questions.

Interviewers must have:

* Good telephone and interpersonal skills

*         Basic computer/data entry skills

* Able to commit 8 hours per week, spread over at least 2 days. Hours are flexible and can be covered either during weekdays from 9:00am - 7:30pm or Saturdays between 10:00-4:00pm.

* Individuals with CITI training (required IRB training on human subjects research) a plus, though not required as training can be offered, if necessary.

This is an amazing opportunity to contribute to a life-changing initiative while developing your interviewing skills and getting good study experience for your resume. If this sounds like an opportunity you would like to take up, please contact Samantha Udondem at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>or Cari Olson at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
