Subject: Fwd: Health news unit at WNYC public radio is looking for research partners interested in mobile technology's ability to track and improve...

This looks like a fascinating opportunity for both student and faculty-driven research projects! See below for details--

Dr. Dinour

The health news unit at WNYC public radio is looking for research partners interested in mobile technology's ability to track and improve people's health.

The station's recent ventures in this arena include Clock Your Sleep<http://project.wnyc.org/sleep/>, where the station built its own
app and worked with Jawbone and Fitbit, to help people learn about their sleep habits and together learn about strategies to get better sleep.

Earlier this year, the station's tech podcast New Tech City launched a project, Bored and Brilliant<http://www.wnyc.org/bored>, to encourage people to find a balanced relationship with their smartphones by tracking their phone habits with the apps Moment and BreakFree.

Along with great radio storytelling, WNYC wants to increase the impact of its reporting by getting listeners to understand how their
day-to-day habits affect their health. The station's health podcast will begin running this fall.

Our projects yield a significant amount data (Sleep and Bored and Brilliant had thousands of participants) that could be rich for
analysis by a medical or health researcher. For more information about our unit, here is an article by Nieman Lab.<http://www.niemanlab.org/2014/11/the-newsonomics-of-telling-your-audience-what-they-should-do/

If you have an area of research that might benefit from crowd-sourcing, please contact me Elaine Chen, project manager at WNYC, [log in to unmask]<java_script:;%22>.
