Promoting smart, fair food policy for New York
Job Posting
Director of Community Projects The New York City Food Policy Center at Hunter College was created in 2012 to develop intersectoral, innovative and evidence-based solutions to preventing diet-related diseases and promoting food security in New York and other cities. The Center works with policy makers, community organizations, advocates and the public to create healthier, more sustainable food environments and to use food to promote community and economic development. Through interdisciplinary research, policy analysis, evaluation and education, we leverage the expertise and passion of the students, faculty and staff of Hunter College and CUNY. The Center aims to make New York a model for smart, fair food policy.

The Director of Community Projects will direct existing and new community projects, supervise and coordinate the work of staff and students working on community and evaluation projects, develop new food-related projects in East Harlem and other low income NYC communities, and assist faculty co-directors to find continuing support for Center activities.
Qualifications
Masters or higher degree in food studies, public health, nutrition, public policy,community development or a related field. At least three years experience in working to promote healthier food policies, reduce food insecurity, or prevent diet-related diseases in New York or another large city.
Experience in East Harlem and/or fluency in Spanish desirable.
Significant food-related experience and demonstrated accomplishments in at least three of the following domains:
1. Program development
2. Policy analysis or advocacy
3. Evaluation
4. Partnership development in diverse urban settings
5. Community and economic development
6. Fund raising or grant writing

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is full-time but flexible hours are possible. An early start date is highly desirable. A full package of benefits is provided.
