Background
This position will be housed within the Nutrition Education Program of the Healthy Eating Initiatives unit in the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Tobacco Control. The Bureau spearheads programs and initiatives to reduce the burden of chronic diseases and to address the underlying risk factors that lead to them, such as poor nutrition, physical inactivity and tobacco use. The Nutrition Education Program requires substantial program support in order to coordinate program materials, hire nutrition consultants, and adhere to multiple project budgets with different fiscal deadlines. The Program Assistant reports to the Senior Program Manager of the Nutrition Education Program, and will be a key team member in executing a variety of nutrition education programming for low-income families across NYC.

Responsible for planning and implementing Nutrition Education to The Food Bank for Westchester member programs with a major focus on SNAP eligible clients. This position may require some after business and weekend hours. This position reports to the Director of Member Services & Nutrition.
Responsibilities & Duties:
This position reports directly to the Director of Member Services & Nutrition and will work in tandem with the Agency Relations Manager and the Sustainable Food Growing Projects Coordinator.
JSY Nutritionist/Consultant will perform the following services for the Food Bank in the capacity of a Public Health Nutritionist:
Assist in the implementation of a comprehensive nutrition education and obesity prevention program for low-income individuals accessing emergency food programs.
Identify food pantries, shelters and soup kitchens who will participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (SNAP-Ed).
Schedule and conduct nutrition education sessions and recipe demonstrations with SNAP- eligible participants.
Market JSY nutrition education sessions to food pantry operators and community partners to highlight nutrition education training opportunities that are available to food stamp eligible populations.

Master's Degree in Clinical Nutrition or related field preferred. Clinical experience in a healthcare facility required. Must be a Registered Dietitian approved through the Commission on Dietetic Registration by the first evaluation after the probationary period required. Effective oral, written communication and interpersonal skills required.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing optimum nutritional care to patients admitted to general medical, surgical or pediatric units through nutrition screening, assessment, support, counesling, metabolic monitoring, and medical team communication. Functions as a resource person to Nutrition students/residents and medical team regarding the nutritional management of patients. Employee will work under general direction.

c. Ensures employee practices meet HACCP and infection control standards. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies including: Department of Health and Federal OBRA standards for Food Service and Nutritional Care.
d. Establishes and implements a quality assurance program.
e. Prepares and responds to internal and external audit requests, reports and findings
f. Develops departmental policies; adheres and monitor adherence of the department and the members of the network to all company policies and procedures
3. Initiates and implements operational improvements and efficiencies for the department
a. Reviews operational performance. Makes changes as needed to improve services, increase efficiency, manage costs and meet regulatory requirements.

5. Demonstrates a strong focus on customer service for residents and customers.

d. Works with on-site management team to develop corrective action plans in response to resident council meetings and satisfaction surveys

6. Performs HR tasks for and with the staff: hiring, training, evaluations, coaching, performance documentation, etc...

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required unless 15+ years of experience with nursing home food production and progressive foodservice. Certified Dietary Manager Certification or licensed dietitian preferred
Experience:
· 7+ years’ progressive nursing home food production and foodservice management experience.
· Comprehensive knowledge of food service systems and administration.
· Experience in a leadership position for 3+ years
