Position Description
Title: Director/Senior Research Specialist, Nutrition and Physical Activity Policy Research [Senior Economic Policy Analyst: Obesity, Nutrition and Physical Activity]
Department: Intramural Research, National Home Office, American Cancer Society
Reports to: Managing Director, Economic and Health Policy Research
1.      JOB SUMMARY:
Develop new research opportunities, initiate collaborative research projects, and provide input to ACS' nutrition and physical activity initiatives to inform public policies on both national and local levels. Publish research papers, contribute to research service publications, and other relevant reports and books with the goal of developing public policy recommendations and strategies for policy change.  Collaborate on research publications with the staff of the Intramural Research Department, and with external collaborators. Support the Director of the Economic and Health Policy Research Program (the Program) in day-to-day management responsibilities, including that of junior research staff. Represent ACS and the Program at conferences and meetings, both within and outside ACS.
2.      MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  *   Analyzing data and developing original research publications relevant for developing policies related to nutrition and physical activity
  *   Supervise one Master's level research analyst
  *   Maintain and facilitate communications among international collaborators
  *   Create and maintain a database supporting the research effort
  *   Represent the Program at conferences and meetings
  *   Support the Managing Director and be familiar with the day-to-day operations of the Program
  *   Understand and support the overall ACS mission related to nutrition and physical activity
  *   Promote collaboration within ACS, with a particular focus on the Intramural Research Department  and ACS CAN
  *   Perform other duties as needed for the Program
 3.      KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
 PhD in Economics of Health Behavior, Public Policy Analysis or Public Health

  *   Relevant research experience and publishing record
  *   Excellent communication and presentation skills,
  *   Project management experience
  *   Capability to work independently
  *   Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.

Position Requirements:
*PhD in Economics, Public Policy Analysis or Public Health with at least two years of post-doctoral research experience
*Relevant research experience and publishing record.
*Excellent communication and presentation skills.
*Project management experience.
*Capability to work independently.
*Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies
