Nutrition Education Volunteers Needed at the Bubble Foundation!

Bubble Foundation delivers nutrition (EATS) and fitness (MOVES) programming to burgeoning charter schools serving at risk children in underserved communities. Bubble works with these schools to target and address the needs of the children it serves, customizing programs, free of charge, in order to support specific goals for 1–2 years. Together we build a foundation for these schools to implement and fund their own programs beyond the initial 1–2 years.

Bubble EATS is currently seeking volunteer teachers to teach nutrition and wellness related programming to elementary (K-5) students in one of our charter schools(we are partnering with schools from the south Bronx to Red Hook). Volunteer teachers will use Bubble curricula to teach one interactive 45-min class per week on topics relevant to food and health (e.g., nutrition science, gardening, agriculture, food literacy, environment). Volunteer teachers are asked to be able to commit to teach for the entire semester (Sept-Dec and may be paired with a co teacher with complementary skills to ensure classroom management and consistent coverage.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience teaching students of elementary school age, ideally in a classroom or other group setting, is a key qualification. This experience need not be nutrition-related! Your main responsibility will be teaching a group of 20 young children for 45 minutes. You should be very comfortable with that. Experience working within a public school or in an urban environment. Willingness to provide clear feedback to help schools overcome challenges to implementing nutrition classes and to enhance the EATS program overall.

Commitment to the school and students as evidenced by reliability (showing up consistently and on time for class), enthusiasm (knowing the material, being creative, and making it fun for the kids), and positive attitude about the program (sharing your enthusiasm with the staff, parents, and other members of the school community).
Interest in food and nutrition is helpful, but not required.

Weekly time commitment: 1-1.5 hrs per week on-site (45 min class, plus prep time) during the school day. You will also likely spend 1-2 hrs per week reviewing the lesson at your leisure to prepare for class.

Thank you for your interest in Bubble!

Bubble Foundation believes every child should have access to activities and food that help them live healthy and happy lives. Bubble aspires to become a community standard for fun and educational activities designed to help kids make the best food and exercise choices possible. We custom design fitness and nutrition programming that augments fledgling charter schools' core academic curriculum with unique in-school and after-school initiatives that educate children about nutrition, healthy eating, and fitness.
