Bronx Health REACH Job Opportunities


Nutrition & Physical Activity Coordinator
The Nutrition and Physical Activity Coordinator is responsible for activities related to increasing access to physical activity opportunities and environments with healthy food and healthy beverage options in the Bronx. S/he will work closely with housing developers, parks and recreation agencies, transportation-focused organizations, schools and other partners. The Coordinator will also work closely with food retailers and their trade associations, distributors, farmer's market operators, schools, the local health department and other organizations in the Bronx to implement policy, systems and environmental changes. Approximately 10% of the Coordinators time will be devoted to evaluation activities, and 20% to communications and dissemination activities. Evaluator & Policy Analyst
The Evaluator and Policy Analyst is responsible for coordinating all aspects of evaluation and policy development for Towards a Healthier Bronx (THB) initiative funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Evaluator and Policy Analyst will work with the NYU Evaluation team to design, develop, and implement all evaluation activities for THB. This position will also be responsible for analyzing the policies in support of the THB program efforts. The Evaluator and Policy Analyst will report to the Project Director of Bronx Health REACH. Bronx Health REACH Community HealthCorps Member
The Community HealthCorps Member will assist with the Healthy Schools New York school wellness program, aimed at achieving improved nutrition, physical activity, and physical education in Bronx schools. Additionally, he/she will provide support to the schools project coordinator with regard to professional development and technical assistance efforts within schools and working with districts to improve WellSAT scores. Some background in nutrition, fitness, and/or education strongly encouraged and a passion/interest in addressing childhood obesity issues. Evaluation Intern
The Institute for Family Health's Bronx Health REACH is seeking a bilingual Evaluation Intern who will assist with the implementation and evaluation of a project to increase fruit and vegetable consumption in the Bronx. The position requires 15-20 hours a week and runs through August 2016. A transportation stipend will be provided. Bronx Health REACH Partners New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education and SoBRO Receive $100,000 Our Town Grant
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced it has been selected for a distinguished Our Town grant of $100,000 to support "Make Mott Haven," a neighborhood-based effort to enrich the lives of South Bronx residents through local arts and cultural opportunities. Bronx Health REACH partners Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education along with the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO) will present public performances, festivals, film screenings, and arts workshops in and near NYCHA developments in Mott Haven. The first "Make Mott Haven" activities supported by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) will start in the fall of 2015 and continue through the fall of 2017.

Harvest Home Soundview Farmers Market Every Saturday through November 21st
Located at Morrison Avenue and Harrod Place, the Harvest Home Soundview Farmers Market is open every Saturday through November 21, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine. SNAP/EBT, WIC Farmer's Market coupon, Senior Farmer Market coupons and Health Bucks are all accepted. The Harvest Home Soundview Farmers Market is easily accessible by taking the 6 train to the Morrison Ave-Soundview station and the Bx4, Bx4a, and Bx27 buses stop right at the market.

Faith Communities Addressing HIV Prevention Discussion - September 21st
The Bronx Regional Committee of the AIDS Institute's Faith Communities Project and Creston Avenue Baptist Church invite you to a youth and clergy dialogue on how faith communities can address the HIV prevention needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) youth. Elder Marcia E. Stanley, Pastor of Creston Avenue Baptist Church will host this important dialogue on Monday, September 21st from 6 to 9 p.m. Dinner will be provided. Active Design in Schools Capacity Building Workshop - September 22nd
The Active Design in Schools Capacity Building Workshop trains school partners and school-affiliated individuals to build teams, lead active design visioning sessions, lead school space assessments and implement active design projects in schools in order increase opportunities for physical activity among students, teachers, parents, and the community. This training enables participants to successfully describe, implement and train others on the concepts and processes in the Active Design Toolkit for Schools. The workshop will be facilitated by members of the DOHMH Active Living Unit along with urban planner James Rojas. Lower Concourse Community Listening Session - September 29th
The City of New York is embarking on a study to guide significant new infrastructure investment in the Lower Grand Concourse area; generally between the Harlem River & Morris/Lincoln Ave from 149th Street down to the Bruckner Blvd. You are invited to attend and share what's important in terms of transportation, waterfront access, affordable housing and more in the larger plan for critical infrastructure investment in the Lower Grand Concourse. NYC Center for Health Equity seeks Program Coordinator
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is looking to fill a Program Coordinator position at the Center for Health Equity's Office of Faith Based Initiatives. The Center will work in collaboration with community-based partners, building on work the District Public Health Offices and others have pursued over the years. The Center will focus on these key areas: leveraging community assets to better integrate primary care and public health to serve the health needs of communities; building inter-agency collaboration to implement multi-sectorial approach to addressing the root causes of health disparities; and increasing organizational capacity that strengthens the agency's lens of addressing health equity. Asphalt Green Recess Enhancement Program Recruiting for Play Coaches
Asphalt Green, a sports and fitness nonprofit organization, is looking for play coaches for its Recess Enhancement Program (REP) for the 2015-2016 school year. REP is a unique community program providing recess for children in public elementary schools across Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. Play Coach Duties include leading recess and teaching interactive games to kids at elementary schools, helping children resolve conflicts, and attending weekly meetings sharing coaching strategies and learning new games. Free Tennis Lessons for Children
New York Junior Tennis League 2015 Youth Community Tennis Program in the Bronx offers free tennis lesson to youth between the ages of 5 and 18. Come and register at any time during the season.
