Spoons Across America (SAA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating children, teachers, and families about the benefits of healthy eating though food and nutrition-based educational programs for children.

2014 Fall Volunteer Positions:
Take a Taste with Spoons (TAT)
Take a Taste with Spoons is a 3 week program for 3rd graders implemented in a variety of classrooms across NYC from October 14 – November 14. You can read more about the program here.<http://spoonsacrossamerica.org/?page_id=55> Volunteers will be partnered with a SAA Curriculum Leader and assist in a one hour class once a week for 3 weeks in each classroom to which you are assigned. Volunteers will work directly with children, as well as assist in set-up, material distribution, answering questions and clean-up. We are looking for individuals enthusiastic about healthy eating and children’s programming.

We are ideally looking for volunteers who can commit to all 3 sessions in a particular classroom(s), but if you only able to volunteer once or twice, please sign up as well.

The Dinner Party Project (TDPP)
The Dinner Party Project will be implemented at two sites from October- December. The Dinner Party Project is a hands-on program for 5th graders that teaches children about healthy eating and cooking by planning a dinner party for their families at their school. You can read about TDPP here.<http://spoonsacrossamerica.org/?page_id=18> Volunteers will be partnered with a SAA Curriculum Leader. The Dinner Party Project consists of 6 one-hour lessons plus an additional half day (2pm-8pm) on the day of the actual party. Depending on the site, classroom lessons are scheduled in the morning as well as after-school. For classroom lessons, volunteers will work directly with children, as well as assist in set-up, material distribution, answering questions and clean-up. Volunteers will also assist students with cooking and distributing the meal on the night of the Dinner Party.

We are looking for volunteers for both classroom lessons and to support children in the kitchen the night of the party. Please indicate your preference, if any, when signing up.

All volunteers will receive training at the Spoons Across America offices, and are required to attend one of the following training dates: Monday, September 29th from 6-7:30pm or Wednesday October 1 from 11am-12:30pm.* Please contact Annie Howell at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> if you are interested in one or both of the Volunteer Opportunities with Spoons Across America this fall. Please specify the program of interest. If you are unable to volunteer at this point, we will have other opportunities available this winter and spring.
