In recognition of Hunger Action Month and Childhood Obesity Awareness Month this September, Feeding America is teaming up with our partners at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Voices for America’s Children to host an interactive grassroots town hall about child hunger and childhood obesity. The town hall will feature remarks and Q&A with Sam Kass, followed by an interactive roundtable discussion about opportunities and challenges to making progress on child nutrition on the ground and in Congress.

We hope that the content is something that will be of broad interest and encourage you to participate and to share this opportunity with your networks. A full invite is below. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best,
Sophie

Join a Child Nutrition Town Hall on Sept. 13
Join an interactive discussion about child hunger and childhood obesity with special guest Sam Kass, White House Assistant Chef and Senior Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives, on Thursday, September 13 at 3:00 p.m. EST.

What: Child Nutrition Virtual Town Hall

When: Thursday, September 13, 3:00 p.m. EST

Who: White House Assistant Chef and the Senior Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives Sam Kass, Feeding America, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Voices for America’s Children, and you!

How: Register now<http://www.hungeractioncenter.org/vthregistration.aspx> to make sure you’re a part of this important conversation.

September is both Hunger Action Month and Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, reminding us that over 1 in 5 children are at risk of hunger and 1 in 3 are obese or overweight. These dual challenges are interconnected, and many communities are engaged in innovative efforts to fight child hunger and improve child nutrition.

Join the conversation as Sam Kass takes your questions and discusses the programs and initiatives that are making progress against hunger and obesity in communities around the country. Then participate in a roundtable discussion with policy experts from Feeding America, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and Voices for America’s Children about the challenges and opportunities on the ground and in Congress.

Be sure to share this opportunity with your networks to help raise awareness about child hunger and obesity and the role that each of us can play to improve child nutrition in our communities.

The Food Policy Working Group (FPWG) provides a forum for national organizations to share information and coordinate strategy related to hunger, nutrition, and food policy. Individual organizations share policy resources and advocacy opportunities with other members through the working group, but FPWG itself does not take formal policy positions.
