Fellowship Opportunity to work with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2015

Health Policy Fellowship - (Nutrition)

Qualifications:

*         A graduate degree in nutrition or public health received within the last five years.

*         Applicants who are Registered Dietitians (RD) or RD exam eligible are preferred.
Project Description:
A fellowship opportunity is available in the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). OASH provides leadership to the nation on public health and science matters, and communicates on these subjects to the American people. ODPHP has been leading the alignment of disease prevention and health promotion activities across DHHS for more than 30 years.
In cooperation with the Prevention Science Team, the fellowship opportunities may include:

*         Assisting the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee in developing its recommendations to the Secretaries of DHHS and USDA for the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) 2015

*         Assisting in the development of the DGA 2015, as ODPHP is the lead agency for this next edition

*         Assisting in the development and implementation of DGA projects and materials

*         Assisting in the development of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans (PAG) Mid-course Report, and communicating and disseminating the report and related messages

*         Participating in the review of Dietary Guidelines-related and Physical Activity Guidelines-related materials

*         Participating in evaluation and collaborative projects in the area of disease prevention and health promotion

*         Participating in Prevention Science Team meetings through contributions to program development and implementation

*         Contributing to ODPHP worksite wellness activities, and as needed to other ODPHP and Departmental prevention efforts
The Research Participation Program for DHHS is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of OASH contingent on the availability of funds and project needs. The participant will receive a monthly stipend based on educational level and experience. The participant must show proof of health insurance. The appointment is full-time at OASH in the Rockville, Maryland, area. Participants do not become employees of OASH, DHHS, or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
