Information For Our Members

We value each and every PHCNPG member and strive to meet your needs and let your voices be heard. Thank you to the members who have already provided feedback regarding Academy sponsorship and specifically the Kids Eat Right educational initiative with Kraft.

Your feedback is timely because on May 3, 2015, the House of Delegates (HOD) meeting<http://www.phcnpg.org/eblast/link.cfm?eml=567&usr=004B1404445C265B4C5E1707401750410B1F4F55554C&desc=House%20of%20Delegates%20%28HOD%29%20meeting&dest=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ephcnpg%2Eorg%2Fpage%2Fhod%2D2014%2D2015> will address the Current Membership Question: How do we evolve our existing sponsorship program to further the mission, vision and goals of the Academy while safeguarding the Academy's reputation and integrity?

Specifically, the objectives of the meeting are to:

1. Understand the impact of the sponsorship program on the profession, Academy Foundation, and the Academy, including DPGs, MIGs and affiliates.

2. Identify the Academy's steps in evaluating alignment with a potential sponsor.

3. Identify elements of the Academy's corporate sponsorship program that need to be retained or modified.

Continue to provide your feedback directly to Shannon Robson<http://www.phcnpg.org/eblast/link.cfm?eml=567&usr=004B1404445C265B4C5E1707401750410B1F4F55554C&desc=Shannon%20Robson&dest=mailto%3Ashannon%2Erobson%40cchmc%2Eorg>, PHCNPG Delegate, or through the online survey designed to obtain PHCNPG member feedback<http://www.phcnpg.org/eblast/link.cfm?eml=567&usr=004B1404445C265B4C5E1707401750410B1F4F55554C&desc=PHCNPG%20member%20feedback&dest=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Esurveymonkey%2Ecom%2Fr%2FPTLF872> regarding these issues.

Thank you in advance for your attention and cooperation and for your continued support of PHCNPG.

The collaboration with KRAFT Singles is designed to raise awareness of the importance of vitamin D and calcium in children's diets and to drive consumers to our Kids Eat Right website. The Academy's position is the nature and purpose of this collaboration has been seriously misrepresented in a New York Times article<http://www.phcnpg.org/eblast/link.cfm?eml=567&usr=004B1404445C265B4C5E1707401750410B1F4F55554C&desc=New%20York%20Times%20article&dest=http%3A%2F%2Fwell%2Eblogs%2Enytimes%2Ecom%2F2015%2F03%2F12%2Fa%2Dcheese%2Dproduct%2Dwins%2Dkids%2Dnutrition%2Dseal%2F%3Fsmid%3Dfb%2Dshare%2E>.

March 17, 2015

To all members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics:

Let me begin by apologizing for the concerns caused by the education initiative with Kraft. The Academy and the Foundation are listening. As a member-driven organization, the Academy’s staff and leadership hear your concerns and welcome your input.

Unfortunately, recent news articles misstated a collaboration as a Kids Eat Right “endorsement” of Kraft Singles, and that it represents a “seal of approval” from Kids Eat Right, the Foundation, or the Academy. It is not an endorsement. It is not a seal of approval. We understand this distinction is of little consequence to many Academy members who are concerned with the perception. We are working on a solution.

In addition, we are working to establish a joint, member-driven Member Advisory Panel. This Panel will work closely with both Boards to:

 Establish dialogue with members

 Gather input and give feedback on member issues

 Make specific recommendations

Recognizing sponsorship as a significant issue of concern among members, the House of Delegates leadership team, who also serve on the Board of Directors, scheduled a dialogue on sponsorship for the upcoming virtual House of Delegates meeting, May 3. We encourage all members to reach out to your delegates and share your thoughts on the benefits of, concerns about and suggestions for the sponsorship program. The Academy and Foundation Boards are looking forward to your input.

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,

Patricia M. Babjak

Chief Executive Officer

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
