Dear Friend,

Funding is now available for health impact assessments through the Health Impact Project, a collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts. Through a nationwide call for proposals<http://www.healthimpactproject.org/project/body/Health-Impact-Project-Call-for-Proposals-2014.pdf?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131&elqCampaignId=1931>, government and tribal agencies and educational and nonprofit organizations can apply for grants to fund the establishment of sustainable, self-supporting HIA programs intended to routinely integrate health into public policy decision-making. Please visit our FAQ<http://www.healthimpactproject.org/project/opportunities/faq?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131&elqCampaignId=1931> for more information.

The nationwide call for proposals covers the following types of grants:

  1. Demonstration project grants will fund single HIAs to inform specific proposed policies, programs, plans, or projects. The Health Impact Project will award up to six grants for as much as $100,000 each and will provide training and technical assistance to awardees through the term of each grant. See below for information about additional funding for Minnesota-based HIAs and to watch<https://pewtrusts.webex.com/ec0701l/eventcenter/recording/recordAction.do?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&theAction=poprecord&AT=pb&internalRecordTicket=000000013cae7032f813b7a5808d3470b8496c28cbf6288b64b704e9dcbe84b3aed9c31e&isurlact=true&renewticket=0&recordID=38676967&apiname=lsr.php&needFilter=false&format=short&&SP=EC&rID=38676967&RCID=5e615946143805e73746d6b8343c2e3b&siteurl=pewtrusts&actappname=ec0701l&actname=%2Feventcenter%2Fframe%2Fg.do&rnd=6514395444&entactname=%2FnbrRecordingURL.do&entappname=url0201l&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131&elqCampaignId=1931> the previously recorded Web conference.

Applicants need not have prior HIA experience. Preference will go to applicants proposing innovative topics for HIAs or proposing work in states and regions that have had relatively little HIA activity to date. To learn more about the locations and topics of completed and in-progress HIAs, view<http://app.outreach.pewtrusts.org/e/er?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&s=814789524&lid=265&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131> the map of U.S. HIA practice.
  2. HIA program grants will fund organizations with prior HIA experience and allow them to conduct one or more new HIAs and to implement plans that establish the partnerships, systems, and funding mechanisms needed to maintain stable HIA programs beyond the conclusion of the grant periods. The Health Impact Project will fund up to five program grants for up to $250,000 each. Watch<http://www.healthimpactproject.org/resources/2014-call-for-proposals-hia-program-grant-webinar?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131&elqCampaignId=1931> the previously recorded Web conference.
In addition to the awards offered through the national call for proposals, funding for additional projects is available through support from:

The de Beaumont Foundation<http://www.debeaumont.org/?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131&elqCampaignId=1931>, which will fund three HIA demonstration projects to Big Cities Health Coalition, or BCHC, member health departments. The funding will support BCHC health departments in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Phoenix, cities that have limited HIA experience but have expressed a strong interest in incorporating health into policy decisions. Visit our website<http://app.outreach.pewtrusts.org/e/er?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&s=814789524&lid=5453&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131> for more information.

Once again the Health Impact Project is partnering with The California Endowment<http://www.calendow.org/?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131&elqCampaignId=1931>. With The Endowment's support, we will fund up to two California-based HIA demonstration projects and one HIA program grant under the recently released call for proposals. All selection criteria in the national call for proposals will apply. All eligible California applicants are encouraged to apply; current grantees of The Endowment's Building Healthy Communities<http://www.calendow.org/communities/building-healthy-communities/?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131&elqCampaignId=1931> initiative will receive preference for the HIA demonstration project grants.

Additionally, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation<http://app.outreach.pewtrusts.org/e/er?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&s=814789524&lid=5163&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131> will support three additional Minnesota-based HIA demonstration projects. Funding is open to nonprofits; universities; and local, tribal, or state agencies (other than those that regulate Blue Cross and Blue Shield). All selection criteria in the national call for proposals will apply. For these Minnesota-based HIA demonstration projects, additional preference will be given to proposals focused on community-development, education, social, or economic policies relevant to health and health equity in Minnesota. Preference will also be given to HIAs specifically examining the links between health and school discipline and/or criminal justice policies. Visit our website<http://app.outreach.pewtrusts.org/e/er?utm_campaign=2014-03-25%20HIP.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&s=814789524&lid=5164&elq=5879c867a39c43448fd1992214000131> to learn more.

The deadline to submit ALL brief proposals is April 2, 2014.
