I consult for the NYC DOHMH Cancer Prevention and Control Program and are
looking to hire an Master of Public Health (or related fields) intern (paid,
part-time) by March 14th.

Cancer Prevention and Control Program

Internship Position:  Assistant Project Manager

 

The Cancer Prevention and Control Program of the New York City Department of
Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking to hire an Assistant Project Manager to
support the Program's Citywide colon cancer prevention and control
activities.

 

Background

The Cancer Prevention and Control Program's mission is to reduce the
incidence of the disease and its mortality, and to promote the overall
health of at-risk New Yorkers.   The Program focuses on the development of
programs and interventions that address prevention, improved early detection
and treatment of cancer.  The Program has particularly addressed colorectal
cancer, which is the preventable cancer with the lowest rates of screening
in New York City. Various initiatives have been launched to increase the
colonoscopy screening rate, such as partnering with the Citywide Colorectal
Cancer Control Coalition ('C5').  C5 activities are year round, and include
an annual summit.  The Program also focuses on Women's Health Initiatives,
including breast and cervical cancer.  It conducts media campaigns, as well
as advocacy and policy initiatives.  And the Program undertakes targeted
research to evaluate and refine current strategies and identify new
directions.

 

Responsibilities to assist with the following as needed:

*	Coordinating and programmatic support to the C5 Coalition, provide
support to C5 working groups, as appropriate; including scheduling and
logistics for  committee meetings, and help to ensure the effectiveness of
the Annual C5 Summit.
*	Quantitative and/or qualitative research activities to identify
barriers and facilitator to colonoscopy screening.
*	Grant writing.

 

Requirements and Skills

*	Graduate student in Public Health, Biology, Psychology, Education,
Social Work or related fields. 
*	Work effectively in a team environment.
*	Excellent communication and writing skills.

 

Salary and Hours

$12.00/hour; Hours will be negotiated with the intern.
