CONSULTANT POSITION AVAILABLE

Position: Program/Site Review Consultant
United Way of New York City- Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP)<http://unitedwaynyc.org/pages/HPNAP>

General Responsibilities
The Program/Site Review Consultant will conduct on-site program reviews of emergency food programs (EFPs) funded by United Way of New York City (UWNYC).  Program reviews include nutrition, food safety, and administrative components. Consultants will be trained on how to evaluate each component using standardized site monitoring forms and data entry into the FeedNYC.org<http://FeedNYC.org> database.  Program reviews are conducted during EFP hours of operation and will be assigned based on consultant’s stated availability.  This consultant position requires at least 15-20 hours per month with variable hours from October 2013 through May 2014.  Consultants will receive $19.50 per hour.

Specific Duties:
·             Conduct on-site program reviews of UWNYC-funded emergency food programs during hours of operation.
·             Schedule program reviews directly with EFP contact person by phone or email 1-3 weeks prior to visit.
·             Use site monitoring forms to assess EFPs for adherence to nutrition, food safety, and administrative requirements.
·             Provide written and verbal technical assistance regarding nutrition, food safety, and program administration during site visit.
·             Assess needs for food service equipment based on food safety and sanitation issues and make recommendations as required.
·             Complete paper site monitoring forms and data entry into FeedNYC.org<http://FeedNYC.org> within two weeks of conducting a program review.
·             Attend a paid training in October and additional paid trainings, as required.

Job Requirements:
·             Knowledgeable about community nutrition, food safety, food service, and hunger as they relate to New York City residents.
·             Have professional or academic experience in any of the above topics.
·             Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
·             Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
·             Ability to travel city-wide on public transportation or in own vehicle.
·             Ability to work a minimum of 15 hours per month from October 2013 to May 2014 or until assigned program reviews are completed.
·             Ability to communicate in a timely manner with UWNYC about status of program reviews and other pertinent information.
·             Ability to work some Saturdays and Sundays.
·             Strong preference will be given to candidates currently holding a NYC Food Protection Certificate<http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/services/hanyfood-online.shtml?>.  Candidates without this certification will be required to take the course within the first month of hire on their own time and without remuneration.
