Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY)







Center for Home Care Policy & Research



The VNSNY Center for Home Care Policy and Research is seeking to hire research interviewers to cover the borough of Queens, for a study evaluating a 12 month hypertension management intervention targeted toward stroke patients who receive services from VNSNY.







The Center is looking for detail-oriented people interested in research to travel to patients' homes to conduct health interviews.



Three structured interviews are planned with each recruited study participant – baseline, 3 month and 12 month follow up in-home interviews. Questions will focus on the patient’s high blood pressure treatment, health care service use, and health status along with a variety of socio-demographic items.







Basic Responsibilities



 Conducting the initial in-home interview and schedule and conduct 2 follow-up interviews (3 months and 12 months post baseline)



 Interviewers will be required to measure each patient’s blood pressure during each interview using an automated blood pressure device; training will be provided by VNSNY



 If applicable, contacting individuals via telephone to describe the project, solicit participation and schedule in-home interviews



 Communicating frequently with Research Center staff on status of interviews







Basic Qualifications



 Great communication, organization and follow-up skills



 Excellent at engaging people on the phone



 Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and reading fluency, preferred



 Able to follow detailed study protocol when conducting interviews



 Able to handle several assignments simultaneously



 Experience in research interviewing a plus



 Experience in cold calling or customer service calls a plus



 Knowledge of home care or geriatrics a plus



 Bachelor’s Degree in health care, social services, social sciences or related discipline required.







Mandatory Requirements



 Able to attend a 5 hour interviewer training on a week day (Monday-Friday) followed by two 3 hour booster practice sessions on different days.



 Available until the projected study completion in 2017 (or at least 12 months)



 Needs to be comfortable talking with medically ill older adults



 Needs to travel to all areas within an assigned borough



 Available in the daytime at least two half days each week from Monday-Friday (to complete interviews or to come into the office if needed)



 If needed, must be willing to come to the office to complete phone recruitment or, if completing off-site, must have a private location and a reliable telephone







Compensation



 $80 for recruitment, completed consent of patient and baseline interview combined.



 $55 for completed follow up interviews.



 $18 an hour for training and booster training time.



 The interview compensation includes travel time and expense. Reimbursements for these activities are rolled into the interview payments. No additional reimbursement will be provided for these activities.
