New York Beef Industry Council will be hosting tours of cattle farms in May. This will be a unique learning experience for RDs to learn more about cattle operation in our food system at the grassroots level. Highlights of the tours are:



4 CPEUs offered for RDs

4 farms to choose from to be easy on your driving; 5/22 - Millbrook; 5/22 - Truxton; 5/23 Kinderhook; 5/24 Medina.



First hand experience with various aspects of cattle operation including feeding, handling and pasture management

You will be able to better advice your clients with first hand tasting and learning of grass-fed and grain-fed beef.



Enriched learning with cross-disciplinary interaction with other culinary and food retail professionals on the tour.

CAMBA's Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) contract provides food services that include Congregate Meals, Food Pantry Bags, Food Vouchers and nutritional services to 300 HIV positive individuals and their minor children who are residents of NYC and who meet the financial eligibility for the program. All enrolled clients will meet with our Registered Dieticians for an assessment and the completion of a Comprehensive Treatment Plan to address their food and/or nutrition needs. Clients identified as having special nutritional needs will receive appropriate services including Individual Nutritional Counseling and Group Nutritional Education. Through counseling and group education, clients will learn about meeting their own, unique nutritional needs and ensuring proper nutrition and diet while managing co-morbid conditions and treatment adherence. In counseling sessions, clients will set nutritional goals and make specific plans to achieve them. For clients whose physicians have made referrals for nutritional supplements, the appropriate supplements will be distributed in conjunction with counseling sessions.The program staff will ensure that clients are connected and remain in HIV Primary Care in order to continue receiving services under this contract.

The person filling this position is expected, under general direction, to: (1) provide group counseling services to assist individuals to understand the connection between proper nutrition and the relationship to a healthier lifestyle; (2) counsel clients in dealing with such issues as: behavior, educational progress, family dynamics, mental and physical health, housing, personal finances, substance abuse, mental and/or physical trauma, etc.

The minimum qualification for this position is a Bachelor's Degree (B.A., B.S.) or an Associate's Degree (A.A.) and 2 years of experience with similar services, and/or equivalent experience.

The Fund for Public Health in New York, Inc. (FPHNY) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNY implements programs to address pressing public health needs, fosters private sector support to enhance health and health care, and helps educate the public regarding the protection of individual, family and community health.

The Nutrition Strategy Program at the NYC Health Department develops new models for serving healthful food in a range of venues, including but not limited to schools, hospitals, and restaurants. Leading the National Salt Reduction Initiative and developing innovative approaches to improving the food environment, such as the New York City Food Standards, are a key part of the program's activities. This position is currently funded through September 2014 with good potential for an extension.

It should be noted that any individual hired by FPHNY may become a DOHMH employee during the term of this grant support and is therefore subject to completion of all DOHMH qualification and New York City residency requirements and receipt of all necessary approvals.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Program seeks a Project Coordinator to help maintain and expand the Healthy Hospital Food Initiative (HHFI), which works with NYC hospitals to create a healthier food environment for employees, patients and visitors. Please visitherefor more information on the HHFI.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This Project Coordinator will conduct outreach, identify new partners, and engage existing partners to continue to improve their food environments. This position provides support and maintains regular communication with hospital staff implementing the healthy guidelines. The position will also be responsible for writing other materials as needed, including policy briefs, research papers, and reviews of scientific articles.

Health Educator, Healthy Living Initiative

In 2005, as a direct response to the public health crisis of obesity in our youth, HCZ created an effort called the Healthy Living Initiative (HLI) which encouraged our students and their families to incorporate healthy food choices and physical activity into their daily lives. In the years since then, we have sought to deepen our work in this area, and have developed a strategic program model and growth plan and renamed this initiative Healthy Harlem, which consists of best practices in physical activity, nutrition education, and community support.

Like HLI, Healthy Harlem is designed to instill a culture of healthy living throughout the Zone, but is more expansive and strategically focused in the way we reach youth in our programs, their parents/care givers, and the community at-large. Our three-pronged approach consists of Prevention, which serves the general youth population and their families; Treatment, which provides intensive support for overweight and obese youth and their parents/caregivers; and Medical Monitoring, which connects severely obese youth and their families to professional health care providers.

We are seeking part-time Health Educators to work at selected HCZ sites. They will work at a designated program location and will be part of a wellness team dedicated to improving nutrition and increasing physical activity for students at their respective site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conducts behavioral treatment sessions/groups for youth and parents;

• Conduct health assessments to determine overall health status of overweight and obese youth

• Provide a range of supportive and educational health services

• Document student activities, participation, and services provided

• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Health or related field with 2-3 years of relevant work experience; experience working with youth is preferred
