To all students,

Introduction to Healthcare Data Analytics (1.5 credits)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is an introductory course that covers two main aspects regarding the storage, retrieval and analysis of healthcare data. The first half of the course will focus on the basics of storing data using mySQL, which is a popular Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). Students will learn how to set up their own database and write Structured Query Language (SQL) scripts to query and acquire data. The second half of the course will highlight how the R statistical programming language can be a valuable analytic tool when working with large data sets. Each student will have the opportunity to manipulate, visualize and analyze healthcare data using the skills learned in class. Prior programming experience may be useful but is not a pre-requisite for this course as it is mainly an introductory course for those interested in healthcare data analytics.
Pre-requisite courses: PH750 or PH751 (Introduction to biostatistics) and PH752 or PH753 (Introduction to epidemiology).
Dates and times: Monday and Wednesday evenings 5:30-8pm, June 1,3,8,10,15,17,22 and 24
