The CUNY Institute for Health Equity, Research Core's goals are to serve as the CUNY and New York City locus of health equity research that informs policy and program development for achieving equity, and to train the next generation of researchers to be equipped to conduct studies of social determinants of health and related issues.

RESEARCH STUDY: Research Assistants should have an interest in health disparities/health equity research.

* They will be given the opportunity to take part in a multi-method research project from the beginning until its conclusion.

* The study focuses on urban stress and the associations it may have to infant mortality (or other birth outcomes). Research Assistants' responsibilities will include field work where they will use portable devices (e.g. GPS units and decibel meters) to assess or quantify various indicators of urban stressors including street cleanliness, housing stock, noise levels, safety, resource availability, and other neighborhood conditions. Additional, data will be collected via survey and in-depth interviews with the population of interest

* Students will be involved in the analyses of data collected



ELIGIBILITY: To be considered for a research assistant position, applicants must:

* Demonstrate an interest in health equity/ health disparities research

* Be willing and able to spend time at the CUNY Institute for Health Equity (Lehman College) and in the field (Bronx) to collect data (for students who work full-time, there is flexibility)

Overview

Coordinates, directs and supports the efforts of the clinical dietitian team for Rochester General Hospital, Newark-Wayne Hospital, Demay Living Center, and Hill Haven Nursing Home.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Achieves compliance with regulatory agency standards, including state, federal, and the Joint Commission standards.

• Evaluates and implements nutrition care policies and procedures to achieve cost containment and improved patient outcomes.

• Plans therapeutic menus and supplement needs of the system from a clinical point. Responsible for assuring that the quality, clinical and budget needs are met.

• Management responsibilities include overseeing approximately 25 clinical registered dietitians.

• Coordinates according to volume staffing needs for all clinical operations making sure each function meets the needs of the affiliate as well as the goals of the system.

• Prepare and review all evaluations for clinical nutrition team members as appropriate.

• Responsible for recruitment and retention of all employees in appropriate positions.

• Responsible for department budget maintaining expense of supplements and labor usage.

• Administer the assigned system responsibilities to have all affiliates function as one department.

• Identify potential departmental problems and use the Quality Assurance Process to find solutions.

• Maintain a positive relationship with medical staff and senior administration in representing the department system wide.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in clinical nutrition with completion of a coordinated program or dietetic program and supervised practice program approved by CADE of the ADA.

• 3-5 years experience in healthcare, including acute and long term care, with management experience preferred.

• Demonstrated leadership experience.

• Strong analytical, computer, and communication skills.

Required Licensures/Certification Skills

• Registered Dietitian with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the ADA.

• Certification/Licensure as required by New York State.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license

• Experience in the community

As Community Nutrition Educator, you will coordinate the Nutrition Program for our clients which covers Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan Counties in New York's Hudson Valley region. Conduct intakes, screenings and program enrollments, counsel clients regarding nutritional needs. Oversee activities of the program assistant, collect data for reports, maintain pantry food supply in addition to other related duties. Some field work is also part of this postion.



The position reports to the Program Supervisor and is based out of our Newburgh location.

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or equivalent. R.D./R.D. Eligible is preferred although CDN (Certified Dietitian/Clinical Nutritionist) is also a permissible credential. Bilingual skills in English/Spanish is a plus. Responsibilities include conducting nutritional assessments and re-assessments, providing nutrition education groups and individual counseling, with and without supplements. The nutritionist also assists with food distribution, food storage and record keeping for a food pantry. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for inputting services by computer and producing reports.
