Subject: CFBAI update to its nutrition standards



The Children’s Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative (CFBAI) is updating its nutrition standards for food marketing to kids.  (The current standards are here: http://www.bbb.org/us/storage/16/documents/cfbai/CFBAI-Category-Specific-Uniform-Nutrition-Criteria.pdf.)  This will help to address one of the key weaknesses of self-regulation of food marketing to kids, which is that the nutrition standards let in too many unhealthy foods—such as popsicles, Spaghetti-Os, sugary cereals, and fruit snack gummies.



It would be helpful if a number of organizations and experts would comment and encourage CFBAI to make several improvements to the existing standards, including regarding sodium, added sugars, whole grains, brand advertising, and ensuring the food provides children with meaningful positive nutritional value.
