CSPI is looking for a new project assistant.



The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit health-advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., that focuses on improving nutrition, food safety, and public health. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, the nation’s largest-circulation health newsletter. CSPI provides valuable, objective information to the public; represents citizens’ interests before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies; and ensures that advances in science are used for the public good. CSPI is supported largely by the 900,000 subscribers to its Nutrition Action Healthletter and by foundation grants.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Draft letters, memos, fact sheets, talking points, emails and other advocacy and web-based materials.

• Conduct policy research.

• Work with state and local advocates and organizations to support nutrition policies.

• Urge companies to strengthen their nutrition policies.

• Work with CSPI’s Online Community Manager to create social media content and cultivate CSPI’s online community.

• Assist with grassroots organizing activities including arranging constituent meetings with policy makers and coordinating letter writing campaigns.

• Organize and attend coalition meetings; maintain coalition membership databases, lists, and email addresses; and help keep website updated.

• Coordinate meetings and travel for director of nutrition policy; and assist with organizing department events, including press conferences, congressional briefings, conferences, webinars, and meetings.



Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in nutrition, public policy, health education or a related field, and two years of policy experience.

• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and strong attention to detail.

• Public interest commitment.

• Excellent research and writing skills with the ability to write routine correspondence, reports and fact sheets.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak effectively to individuals about on-going projects.

• Computer proficiency with MSOffice applications and database programs, with an emphasis on Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience with online research tools.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and frequent deadlines.

• Ability to work independently, with supervision and as part of a team.
