• Treat and Reduce Obesity Act
• Preventing Diabetes in Medicare Act
• Child Nutrition Programs Reauthorization

House and Senate Committees Pass Child Hunger and Nutrition Programs Bills
The House Committee on Education and Workforce has passed a bill<http://mailer.eatright.org/t/41812/26226065/53309/46/> reauthorizing child nutrition programs. The House bill contains few of the Academy's recommendations<http://mailer.eatright.org/t/41812/26226065/47042/47/> and would roll back much of the progress of the last decade in meeting the nutritional needs of children. The Senate Appropriations Committee passed bill<http://mailer.eatright.org/t/41812/26226065/53310/48/> included many of the Academy's priorities. Unlike the House's version, the Senate did not include<http://mailer.eatright.org/t/41812/26226065/52800/49/> disruptive nutrition policy changes. For those who have not yet participated, a Senate Action Alert<http://www.eatrightpro.org/action%20center> is still open to urge senators to support Child Nutrition and Hunger Programs.

Suspend the Medicare Competitive Bidding Program for Diabetes Testing Supplies Action Alert
This Action Alert<http://www.eatrightpro.org/action%20center> urging members of the House and Senate to Suspend the Medicare Competitive Bidding Program for Diabetes Testing Supplies is still open. For background go to a recent peer-reviewed article<http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/39/4/563.abstract> in the American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Care journal.

Academy Backs Enhanced SNAP Retailer Standards to Improve Nutrition and Reduce Fraud
The Academy has supported many of the proposals<http://mailer.eatright.org/t/41812/26226065/53313/52/> by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to require SNAP retailers to offer a greater variety and deeper stock of healthy staple food items. This action will bring SNAP closer to its stated purpose of providing for improved levels of nutrition among low-income households. Learn More<http://mailer.eatright.org/t/41812/26226065/48433/53/>
