Stellar Farmers' Markets (SFM), a program of the NYC DOHMH, is seeking enthusiastic nutritionists and food advocates to help implement innovative nutrition and cooking workshops at farmers' markets throughout NYC.



Join us on Wednesday February 6th or Thursday February 7th at 10:00 AM to learn about opportunities to work with the Stellar Farmers' Markets program. You don't want to miss out on this opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with the NYC Health Department to bring access to healthy food and nutrition information to New Yorkers living in under-resourced neighborhoods.



SFM operates during the summer and fall months and is hiring for part-time positions for the full July-November 2013 farmers' market season. Currently, there are openings in all three positions: Nutrition Education Consultant, Bilingual Nutrition educator (Spanish translator), and Culinary Nutrition Educator.

Essential Functions

The chosen candidate will be responsible for providing the following services:

• Identify, develop and create new product concepts, new recipes, and recommend improvements to existing Company products.

• Assist the R&D team in all aspects of menu planning, menu analysis, data entry, and creating recipe specifications.

• Must be comfortable in a high volume environment which will require scaling recipes.

• Working close with in-house Nutritionist to evaluate and documentnutrition facts, ingredient statements and allergens of meals.

• Assure that ingredient information is updated, and work with Purchasing Department to source new ingredients.

• Work with all Executive Chefs in each kitchen to comply with any new meal roll-out and cooking techniques (ex: Sous Vide, MAP, and Vacuum packaging)

• Able to step in to run one of our kitchen operations as a temporary executive chef



Qualifications

• Candidates must possess minimum of 5 years' experience in foodrecipe development.

• 5 years Management experience is required – Mentoring the team to work effectively, efficiently and proactively will be the goal of this position.

• Must have experience in multi-location corporation

• Must be proficient in all computer applications and menu analysis programs (ex: Chef Tec). Experience with ESHA Genesis R&D/Food Processor software a plus.

• Ability to work well within a team, under pressure and tight deadlines

• Well organized, detail oriented, and the ability to multi-task

• Flexible, resourceful, and adaptable to unexpected situations

• Ability to communicate, collaborate, and manage relationships effectively with all levels of the organization. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

As Assistant Community Nutrition Educator, you will assist the Community Nutrition Educator in coordinating program activities for our clients in need of nutritional education in Sullivan, Ulster, Orange and Dutchess counties, NY. Your primary focus will be on nutrition program activities in Sullivan/Ulster counties but on occasion you will provide assistance in Orange/Dutchess counties.



In this role you will coordinate and facilitate group as well as individual Nutrition Health Education sessions; conduct client screenings, intakes, and program enrollments; collaborate with clients' Registered Dietitian to assess ongoing nutritional needs for clients enrolled in the program; maintain linkage with Cornell Cooperative Extension and other community service providers; prepare and distribute pantry food bags tailored to client dietary needs and cultural preferences; stock and maintain pantries in both the Sullivan and Ulster county offices in accordance with proper food handling/storage procedures; offer individual and group nutritional counseling and conduct home and field visits as needed.



This is a part-time 21 hour a week position based out of our office in Monticello, NY and reports to the Program Supervisor.

RequirementsBachelor's degree in Nutrition, Human Services or related field with some experience in 2 of the following areas: individual counseling, group presentations/workshops, mental health, substance use, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, and/or work with people with chronic illnesses. Must be able to lift up to 30lbs, have strong data entry skills with access to a car and a valid driver's license.

Dates are from June 4 September 1, 2013 including a 5 day unpaid training session.



Graduate students and applicants with an RD or MS degree are preferred, though applicants with a bachelors in nutrition are welcome to apply. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on, real life experience as a nutritionist for guests seeking to lose weight and get healthier. The program is held at a lovely vacation resort with a myriad of facilities, such as indoor and outdoor pools, spa, tennis, gym, golf and hiking trails. Emory University's 19th Annual Metabolic Camp

June 24-29, 2013

The Annual Metabolic Camp at Emory University was developed 19 years ago by Rani H. Singh, PhD, RD to provide a supportive environment for girls and women with PKU and MSUD. A holistic approach to managing these disorders is emphasized, with particular focus on nutrition, genetics, and overall well-being, with the intention of arresting the disease process and minimizing the instances of miscarriages and severe birth defects which are high in this population. The brochure and an article about the camp are attached. Additional details will soon be available at http://genetics.emory.edu/metcamp/ . We plan to have approx. 30 attendees for camp, most are in junior high/high school but ages range between 12 yrs-adult. We receive limited funding to operate the camp each year--in the form of grants, registration fees, and donations.



We welcome volunteers nationwide & internationally to participate as camp staff for the week of camp. We currently have openings for 5 camp counselors (preferably Registered Metabolic Dietitians), 5 assistant counselors (preferably nutrition students), and 2 camp cooks. Once selected, camp staff will need to arrive one day prior to the camp (June 23, 2013) for orientation.

All staff meals and lodging on Emory campus will be provided. Partial and full travel awards will be available based on financial need.
