The findings will not only make important cross-disciplinary contributions to the field of age-related research, but also inform the research to be conducted by future interns.

The Association Resource Educator – Nutritionist for the Eat Smart New York Regional Grant Funded Program will work under the direct supervision of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County (CCEOC) Eat Smart New York (ESNY) Project Manager to provide strategic and innovative planning, implementing, coordination and evaluation of public education to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among low-income families and individuals encompassing all age groups throughout Sullivan County. As part of the Federal SNAP-Ed Regional Program, and as the only SNAP-Ed nutrition educator for Sullivan County, this position will work closely with program leads in CCE Orange, and is an integral player in program design and development, assessment, evaluation, and management. This position will represent the association and ESNY to the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University. This person will work as a team member in addressing local, regional and statewide programming priorities and operate as a multi-association team member in the above areas of specialization. This position is employed by CCEOC.

We are looking for a candidate with very strong interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to work with diverse audiences in group and one-on-one settings. The incumbent will need to be able to work effectively with staff, clientele, committees, community and funding partners. Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus.

Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Health Education, or Public Health required along with two years of relevant work experience. 

Annual Salary: $53,843 along with benefit package.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Nutrition Educator (CNE) is responsible for the coordination and delivery of group and individual nutrition health education, the review of client assessments, referrals and program eligibility, and the tracking of client progress in the program. The CNE also ensures data collection and entry into the charts and outcome measurement.
POSITION NOT OPEN TO REGISTERED DIETITIAN

Minimum Qualifications (Applicants must meet all the minimum qualifications listed below):
• BA or BS in Nutrition or related field such as health education or family and consumer sciences and
• 2-3 years experience working in the field of HIV/AIDS or with other chronic illnesses and
• 2-3 years experience developing and facilitating nutrition health education 

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

1. Adheres to funder and agency requirements for the provision of Nutrition Health Education (NHE).

2. Develops nutrition health education plans that incorporate: goals and objectives, frequency and duration of sessions, HIV specific health and nutrition topics.

3. Reviews Registered Dietician (RD) assessment and dietary recommendation to determine food service client receives and type of health education appropriate for client needs. 

4. Responsible for maintaining client records and works as part of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and evaluation team for program improvement; Maintains client records that document attendance, participation, progress, accomplishments, and additional needs, referrals and goal.

5. Monitors, in conjunction with the Program Director, the appropriateness of the food service provided to the client.

6. Establishes connections and communicates frequently with Medical Nutrition Programs/Practitioners and RDs and makes referrals as necessary and appropriate.

7. Completes NHE and Food program screening form which includes the reasons for client participation in the program

8. Ensure clients’ adherence to all program policies and procedures and follows program protocols for participation, pantry bag distribution and incentives.

9. Acts as Team Leader to conduct community coordination activities.

10. Communicates and collaborates with Funder and responds timely and appropriately to all requests from funder, Program Director and Executive Director.

11. Attend and successfully complete all required training and represent the agency at various venues promoting the program and the agency.

OTHER POSITION FUNCTIONS

• Serves as a liaison between Iris House and program providers and partners.
• Demonstrates teamwork and open communication and has good interpersonal skills.
• Participate in in-house and community presentations, research and grant writing.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Requirements: Cultural and linguistic competence for the target population (Spanish/English).

Possess excellent presentation and writing skills.

Understand community level work and the importance of collaborating with other agencies.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Health programs represent the largest single sector within which IRC currently operates, constituting approximately 45% of the international budget and with activities in 22 countries. Field-based health staff are supported by a headquarters Health Unit comprised of health professionals with many years of experience in humanitarian work. The Health Unit contributes to the effectiveness and comprehensiveness of IRC primary health care programs through technical support, staff development, and institutional learning. The Health Unit ensures quality programs by promoting self-reliance, participation, sustainability, equity, and human dignity. The Health Unit is committed to the development of the field of humanitarian assistance through advocacy, documentation of lessons learned and research.
The IRC is leading a multi-agency program of operational research to develop a combined protocol for the treatment of severe and moderate acute malnutrition. The IRC is recruiting a Senior Coordinator for Nutrition Research to guide stage 1 of the research. Stage 1 involves the collection and input of patient cards from Outpatient Therapeutic Feeding Programs (OTPs) and Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programs (TSFPs) in approximately 6 country programs into a centralized database, analysis of the data and reporting on key research questions to help design the protocol. The research is funded by OFDA and IRC is leading a consortium of partners including Action Against Hunger-USA and Harvard School of Public Health.
SCOPE OF WORK: The Senior Coordinator for Nutrition Research, as part of the IRC Nutrition team, is responsible for overall supervision of the research program, including coordinating with partners in the consortium, ensuring high quality data entry and analysis in cooperation with IRC and ACF field teams and Harvard School of Public Health, providing technical support to field teams when questions and concerns arise, and adhering to donor requirements. Although field travel is not expected, some short-term travel may be necessary depending on field team needs. Priority will be given to those who can be based in IRC's New York office, although consideration will be given to qualified candidates outside New York, particularly given the short-term nature of the position. Dates of position: December 1, 2014- April 15, 2015.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide overall supervision and technical guidance to the program of research
• Coordinate with research consortium partners, including arranging regular meetings and liaising with partner point persons to ensure adherence to the stage 1 timeline and deadlines
• Provide technical support to field teams to ensure the highest quality data collection and data entry
• Coordinate grant management support through the IRC health unit and ensure adherence to donor requirements
• Ensure the research budget is maintained and updated as activities progress
• Liaise with the expert task force by providing regular updates and convening meetings as necessary to seek feedback
• Support the IRC and partners in pursuing additional funding for the research
• Provide support to the IRC nutrition team and country programs, including writing and reviewing proposals, designing assessments and M&E systems, and answering technical questions.
REQUIREMENTS:
• At least three years experience in the coordination and implementation of nutrition research programs in developing countries
• Experience coordinating a team and incorporating inputs from diverse partners
• Proficiency in nutrition data analysis and database management
• Ability to write clear and effective communications and reports
• Experience with CMAM and IYCF programs
• PhD or Masters degree in public health nutrition, or related degree (nutrition, public health, epidemiology)
• Willingness to travel to the field to provide targeted support to field teams

Health programs represent the largest single sector within which IRC currently operates, constituting approximately 45% of the international budget and with activities in 22 countries. SCOPE OF WORK: The Nutrition Specialist as part of the Nutrition team is responsible for working collaboratively with health unit and field staff to ensure that nutrition interventions within IRC programs are effective, and fulfill adequate quality standards. The Nutrition Specialist reports to the Technical Advisor for Nutrition.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide support to IRC nutrition programs in the field, including writing and reviewing proposals, designing assessments and M&E systems, and answering technical questions, during field visits and remotely.
• Support IRC countries with nutritional assessments in the field, including SQUEACs, SMARTs and IYCF surveys
• Develop and maintain a centralized nutrition database, that collects information from all IRC nutrition field programs and provides easily accessible information for communications and advocacy documents
• Support the nutrition team in communications and advocacy efforts to access new sources of funding,
• Support the IRC nutrition team in the development of tools and guidelines including IYCF and incorporating treatment of malnutrition into the integrated Community Case Management approach
• Maintain the nutrition team budget, including updating the budget with incoming grants
• Perform other tasks as negotiated with supervisor
REQUIREMENTS:
• At least three years experience in the design and implementation of nutrition programs in developing countries, particularly the Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition, in both development and emergency contexts
• Experience conducting nutritional assessments and surveys in SQUEAC, SMART and IYCF evaluations
• Proficiency in nutrition data analysis and database management
• Ability to write clear and effective communications and proposals
• Masters degree in public health nutrition, or related degree (nutrition, public health, epidemiology)
• French language skills an asset
• Ability to travel 30-50% of the time.
