Camp Dietician, Camp Aspire, Rochester, NY [needed immediately]

Join the FUN — apply to work at a diabetes camp and experience the rewards.  Spend part of your summer reliving the joys of childhood fun and becoming inspired by kids living with diabetes.

Session 1 (ages 8-14) Sunday, July 3 – Friday, July 8
Session 2 (ages 13-17) Sunday, July 10 – Friday, July 15

Purpose
§        To ensure the health and safety of all campers.
§        To ensure an enjoyable experience for all campers.
§        To provide meaningful and progressive nutrition service and education for all campers.

General duties:
§  Participate in pre-camp training.
§  Consults with Facility Food Service Director twice before camp regarding menu and food choices/gluten free options.
§  Comply with personnel and camp medical procedures.
§  Consults with Kitchen Staff regularly during camp session
§  Ensure the health and safety of all campers.
•Reviews dietary records and needs of up to 220 campers and up to 100 staff (Celiac, food allergies, etc.)
•Responsible for calculating meal/snack carbohydrate counts and posting publicly in the dining hall and the six cabins.
§  Adjust campers’ meal plans as needed during camp in consultation with the Medical Director.
§  Report all incidents and accidents immediately to the Camp Co-Directors, and cooperate in the completion of required follow-up, Incident/Accident Report.
§  May conduct group educational sessions/games for campers and med staff
•Commands volunteer staff of up to four dietetic students.

During meals:
§  Circulate in the dining room during meal times to answer questions regarding exchanges, serving sizes, and substitutions
·         Check with Facility Food Service Director prior to meals about the menu
·         Review menu and carbohydrate values
§    Check for appropriate serving utensils (measuring cups, etc.)
§  Check for substitutions for allergies.

Snacks:
§  Prepare/assemble daily snacks. Be at snack pick-up area to relay any special information about carbs/allergy substitutions to counselors.

Evening:
§  Attend med staff evening rounds to review camper blood sugar records with med staff. Determine if meal plan changes are needed for any campers.

§  Check cabin refrigerators to inventory chocolate milk and regular milk supply; replenish cabin supply of cups and milk/chocolate milk for overnight lows.

Additional Requirements:
§        Registered Dietitian (CDE preferred)
§        Experience in diabetes management and education
§        Demonstrated ability to work with children.
§        Readiness and ability to adapt to camp environment.
§        Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a team member.

Camp Aspire is a residential summer camp. Most staff are required to sleep on site, however this is optional for the Camp Dietitian.

Education Requirements:
Required: Bachelors Degree in Dietetics or related field or Master degree. Successful
completion of an Academy Of Nutrition and Dietetics Dietetic Internship.
Licensure/Certification Registration Requirements:
Required: Credentialing as Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Candidates eligible for registration may be hired with the understanding that registration will be achieved within 90 days of hire. New York State Licensure/Certification with the Office of Professions within 90 days of hire.
Required Experience:
