The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is offering a paid internship available immediately to matriculated students.

Electronic Laboratory Coordination Aide
The Department of Informatics and Information Technology in the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is looking for a motivated, self-starter professional who is willing to learn new skills to join the Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ECLRS) Coordination team.

Job Description

*       Work with Laboratory IT and clinical teams to implement projects that improve surveillance databases and system reporting, as requested by the Department's Disease Surveillance teams.

*       Assist the ECLRS team in maintaining laboratory compliance with the NYC health code by contacting laboratories with compliance issues and making needs changes.

*       Track laboratory upgrades for facilities updating to meet the new health code requirements and/or Meaningful Use.

*       QA and monitor laboratory report submissions to ensure timeliness, correctness and completeness

Education
A master's degree or coursework towards a degree in public health, computer science or Informatics from an accredited college
Preferred Skills
Interest in messaging and medical coding standards like HL7, XML, LONIC and SNOMED. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.  Ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders such as hospitals, laboratory technical staff and federal, local and state public health jurisdictions, and internal end-users. Public Health and/or Disease Surveillance training desired. Familiarity with SQL a plus but not mandatory.
