RESEARCH ASSISTANT





OVERVIEW: The CUNY Institute for Health Equity-Research Core is seeking to hire research assistants.



The CUNY Institute for Health Equity, Research Core's goals are to serve as the CUNY and New York City locus of health equity research that informs policy and program development for achieving equity, and to train the next generation of researchers who are equipped to conduct studies of social determinants of health and related issues.



RESEARCH STUDY: Research Assistants should have an interest in health disparities/health equity research.

* They will be given the opportunity to take part in a multi-method research project from the beginning until its conclusion.

* The study focuses on urban stress and the associations it may have to infant mortality (or other birth outcomes). Research Assistants' responsibilities will include field work where they will use portable devices (e.g. GPS units and decibel meters) to assess or quantify various indicators of urban stressors including street cleanliness, housing stock, noise levels, safety, resource availability, and other neighborhood conditions. Additional, data will be collected via survey and in-depth interviews with the population of interest

* Students will be involved in the analyses



ELIGIBILITY: To be considered for a research assistant position, applicants must:

* Demonstrate an interest in health equity/ health disparities research

* Be willing and able to spend time at the CUNY Institute for Health Equity (Lehman College) and in the field (Bronx) to collect data (for students who work full-time, there is flexibility)

* Be proficient in various computer applications (e.g. MS Excel, Word, etc.)

* Some experience or knowledge of GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS) is preferred, but not necessary

* Demonstrate strong oral and written skills to present his/her work to students, faculty and Institute affiliates

* Be fluent in Spanish

The ALS Center holds a weekly multi-disciplinary clinic on Monday's. Responsibilities for this Nutritionist include: obtain dietary histories through patient and/or family interviews, conduct nutritional assessments of patients, provide individually tailored nutritional counseling, including recipes if needed. Additionally, the Nutritionist will need to obtain prior authorizations from Medicaid.



This position is Per Diem, working Monday's from 9 to 5 pm.



Requirements include:

• Must be a Registered Dietitian by the ADA.

The NYC Coalition is a health advocacy group that works with the five boroughs to increase awareness of tobacco control issues among community members and policy makers. Partnering with the community, legislators, and health advocates, the NYC Coalition supports neighborhood-based efforts for effective and long term change throughout NYC. Areas of action include the promotion of smoke-free outdoor areas, reduction of youth exposure to tobacco marketing at point of sale, promotion of smoke-free housing, cessation resources and building a community coalition to support initiatives in these areas.

The Borough Coordinator will assist the Borough Manager with designing and executing the achievement of all community tobacco control deliverables. Bilingual Community Educator

The Bilingual Community Educator will work directly with a Nutrition Education Consultant (Registered Dietitian) in the preparation and delivery of nutrition education and cooking demonstrations at farmers' markets. Workshops will be implemented outside at farmers' markets in select high-need neighborhoods with a range of audiences (adults, seniors, parents, and youth). The position requires a commitment of two full markets days (8am to 4pm) per week (Tuesday through Sunday).

Complete responsibilities for the clinical nutrition staff for the entire Health System. Activities include: develop, implement and monitor clinical nutrition practice guidelines and protocols. Develop menus and therapeutic diets; develop and implement policies and procedures for clinical nutrition; develop and implement and report on quality assurance program for department; responsible for menu software; development of diet manuals; responsible for analyzing menus and establishing nutritional protocols to meet JCAHO, NYSDOH, and CACFP regulations. Time Commitment - June through November, Tuesdays approximately 9am to 9pm

• Coordinate CSA volunteers on a weekly basis

• Introduce and train volunteers on their roles and responsibilities

• Receive all deliveries for the CSA on Tuesday mornings

• Set up distribution (includes some heavy-lifting)

• Greet members and guide them through process as needed

• Manage flow of traffic as members proceed through distribution site

• Bag all leftovers and clean up at end of distribution

• Lock up and secure site location

Training will be provided by our host - St. Mark's Church - for appropriate security and lock up
