New York Methodist Hospital is actively recruiting volunteers for its unique emergency department volunteer program, Project Contact<https://www.nym.org/Get-Involved/Volunteer-Opportunities/Project-Contact-Volunteer.aspx>.

Do you thrive in a fast paced environment? Are you outgoing and detail oriented? Do you have an interest in learning about Emergency Medicine? Project Contact volunteers enhance the quality of care in the Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine by providing assistance to staff and patients, facilitating various aspects of the visit to improve the overall experience and contribute to quality healthcare.

Project Contact volunteers will work directly with patients, families and medical professionals while observing and learning in a modern fast paced emergency room. You will help feed patients, attend to non-medical needs, stock supplies, transport patients and retrieve medications as you make the most of compassionate care and good communication skills.

Project Contact volunteers become part of the Emergency Department team, serving in four areas: Treatment, Registration/Triage, Rapid Evaluation Unit, and Pediatric ED.

We would love to hear from you if you are enrolled in a pre-health or nursing program, a post baccalaureate student, a mature college student preparing for a career in medicine, compassionate, can remain calm in stressful and difficult situations, possess critical thinking skills.

Previous patient care experience is preferred, but not required. Bilingual is a plus!

The minimum commitment is 2, 4 hour shifts/week for 6 months and 150 hours of service. Shifts are between the hours of 8am and midnight. Our staff and patients will depend on you! It is critical that you honor your volunteer commitment and attend all of your shifts.
