* Hunter Free Practice GRE,LSAT,MCAT *

Kaplan’s Free Practice Test Event is back!

THIS Sunday 2/26 at 10am at Hunter College the GRE, LSAT, and MCAT will
be offered. All of the tests will take place in the West Building: GRE (rm615),
LSAT (rm511), and MCAT (rm415).

Space is limited for these exams so please register as early as possible
to secure your seat. You can register for the exams by going to bit.ly/hunternpt2012.

This is a great opportunity for you to see how you might score on the
real thing, and also to become familiar with the kinds of questions that
will be on the real test. For most students, this exam will be a more
realistic test-taking experience as you can practice in the format that
mirrors most graduate school exams.

For additional information, visit us at www.kaptest.com/practice or call
one of Kaplan’s test experts at 1-800-KAP-TEST.

* SUNY Downstate Early Health Careers Program (for Undergraduates) *

Come learn about some wonderful opportunities at SUNY Downstate!

EHC
The “Exploring Health Careers” program is an initiative to expose
students to a variety of career options in the health professions. The
program is designed to provide exposure to targeted health professions
through faculty presentations, shadowing opportunities in clinics and
affiliate sites, and information about the application process.

PATH-Allied Health Track
The PATH program offers a unique opportunity for students to explore the
sciences and become acquainted with healthcare professions early in
their academic career. Our goal is to encourage students to consider a
rewarding career in the sciences through participation in our Allied
Health Track.
The program is designed to prepare students through a 1-summer
curriculum to apply early decision to the College of Health Related
Professions at SUNY Downstate in one of the following fields:
 Physician Assistant (PA)
 Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT)
___________________________________
PATH-Graduate Studies Track
The Graduate Studies track of the PATH program offers students the
opportunity to conduct biomedical research with Downstate Faculty.
Students who participate in the Graduate Studies track are taught the
basics of scientific writing and abstract development. At the end of the
8 weeks, each student is required to present his or her work at our
annual Summer Research Symposium. The program prepares students who are
interested in applying to SUNY Downstate’s Ph.D. program in the School
of Graduate studies

* Volunteer Opportunity: Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences
 *

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences offers a volunteer
opportunity to gain research experience in the behavioral issues related
to cancer. The research volunteer would be a valued team member for a
study that examines sun protection practices among family members of
melanoma patients. The volunteer would be responsible for meeting with
melanoma patients in doctors’ clinics, recruiting family member research
participants over the telephone, confirming eligibility and ensuring
that research participants complete their data collection requirements.
Volunteers would also have the opportunity to contribute to manuscripts
resulting from these research studies.

Good time management, organizational and communication skills are
essential. Computer skills are desirable including experience with word
processing, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel. The volunteer must be
available to work on the studies starting in mid-spring throughout the
summer of 2012.

This placement provides an excellent opportunity for research career
development in a healthcare setting through the development of patient
contact and psychology and public health research skills applicable to
all areas of psychology research. Opportunities to attend Departmental
didactic seminars will also be available.

* Proper Etiquette in Responding to Listserv Postings: Submitting
Resumes and Cover Letters for Paid and Volunteer opportunities.
 *

Please read the information below BEFORE applying to any positions. In
the past we have received complaints of unprofessional responses to
postings from individuals offering Hunter students opportunities. This
is just a friendly reminder about professional etiquette.

Job, volunteer, and internship postings that are sent out on the
listserv are professional and should be responded to professionally. It
is unacceptable to send the contact person an e-mail that just simply
says: “I’m interested” or to use text message lingo in a response.
All e-mails or letters should have a greeting and a closing in addition
to proper punctuation and grammar.
For Example:
Dear Ms. Smith:
My name is Sally Jones, and I am interested in the posting that was sent
out on the Hunter College listserv. I am an undergraduate student at
Hunter College, pursuing dental school and an opportunity to work in
your office would be a great learning experience.

Attached are my resume and cover letter.

Thank you for your time.
Sally Jones
