The NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Bridge Year Program<http://www.nyp.org/brooklyn/volunteer-opportunities/volunteer-programs/bridge-year> offers a chance to explore healthcare options and gain hands-on patient care experience as part of a small cohort of like-minded pre-med students taking a gap year before medical school. You will provide direct comfort and care to patients, as well as supporting the work of the medical staff. You will have the opportunity to attend physician talks, and join informative discussions throughout the year. You may also participate in a research project to enrich your understanding of preventive care. You can also be part of an MCAT study group with other cohort members.



We would love to hear from you if you are: a pre-med student taking a gap year between college and medical school, empathetic, an effective communicator, motivated self-starter and a team player responsive to the needs of others.



Time Commitment: The Bridge Program runs for 9 months, from September 2018 to May 2019.  It includes two four- hour patient care shifts; one two-hour seminar block reserved for talks; discussions and study groups weekly; and additional hours for project/research work (as required).  At least one patient care shift, the seminar block, and the additional project hours will be scheduled Monday through Friday between 8 am and 8 pm.
