application. The purpose of the application is for us to review your

Advising

-Students are seen by appointment only.
-Walk-ins are only on Wednesday from 4-6pm. There is no other time when
we see students without an appointment. 
* Whenever hours are canceled or changed the information is posted here:
http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/prehealth/advisement/walk-in-advising no
later than the early afternoon hours are to be held. Always check the
website before coming to Hunter. Also remember that the sign-in sheet
goes up at 3:45 and is usually full by 4pm. If you want to guarantee
yourself a 15 minute spot during walk-ins arrive by 3:30-3:45 and plan
on waiting until your walk-in appointment.

Appointments are made online only.  This link provides detailed
information about our student advising availability and procedures. The
procedure for making an appointment has changed so please review the
information on the website. Please review this section before scheduling
an appointment or coming during walk-in hours.
Note: If you decide to come during the scheduled walk-in hours, you do
not need to notify us via phone or e-mail. Just come to the 12th floor
of the East Building, sign-up and have a seat!  Remember, always check
the website before coming for walk-in hours to make sure they have not
been cancelled or re-scheduled. 

More changes are to come. As always, check our website frequently for
updates, changes and special events!

Panel"

Are you interested in finding out more about the medical school
experience  and the road to medical school? Join us in our conversation
with several amazing medical students who attend Weill Cornell Medical

*The event is particularly geared towards juniors and seniors, and
others who are interested in applying soon, but anyone is welcome to
attend.

Nutrition and Food Science Information Session

This session provides an overview of the admission requirements and
coursework for the Undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nutrition
and Food Science.
The BS NFS program offers general study in nutrition. It does not offer
the theoretical coursework (DP) toward the Registered Dietitian exam (RD).
Faculty representatives will be available to answer your questions.

Kaplan’s Free Practice Test Event 
Sunday 2/24 at 10am at Hunter College 
Sunday 3/3 at 10am at the NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development (133
East 13th Street) 
Students will have the opportunity to attend a live on-site practice
test event  where Kaplan will be offering the GRE, LSAT, and MCAT.  If
you cannot make one of these live events you can also register for one
of their online practice tests through mi-March. 
Space is limited for these exams so please register as early as possible
to secure your seat.  You can register for the exams at all locations by

This is a great opportunity for you to see how you might score on the
real thing, and also to become familiar with the kinds of questions that
will be on the real test. For most students, this exam will be a more
realistic test-taking experience as you can practice in the format that
mirrors most graduate school exams.

A DAY WITH PERELMAN STUDENTS UNDERREPRESENTED IN MEDICINE
Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania

Join us for, “A Day with Penn Underrepresented in Medicine Medical
Students”.  This program targets premed students underrepresented in
medicine and provides an opportunity to learn about our curriculum,
student life, and hear first-hand about preparation for admissions to
medical school. Members of  the Latino Medical Student Association and
the Student National Medical Association who will also be on hand to
share their personal experiences and tips on how to become the best
possible medical school applicant.
Registration is free and lunch is included.
Registration is required; and limited to the first 125 registrants.
Registration begins today February 4 at 9am.

New York Medical College Premedical Mentoring Program Conference

MAChO Motivating Action Through Community Health Outreach

Apply to become a part of the MAChO (Motivating Action Through Community
Health Outreach) program, a collaboration between Weill Cornell Medical
College (WCMC) and Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work and
Public Health. Help educate and inspire children (8-13) in East Harlem
to take control of their health and begin to change these statistics! 

MAChO is a holistic and innovative behavioral modification program
designed to combat the childhood obesity epidemic at the grassroots
level. 

MAChO is currently looking for well-qualified individuals to join for
the Spring 2013 semester, which will begin at the end of February. They
currently have two sites in Harlem, and will be running after-school
programs and weekend programs (Saturdays); they require a semester-long
commitment for all applicants and most positions require a minimum of 3
hours per week. Attached is a list of open positions; the most immediate
need is for teachers, mentors and exercise instructors. They also have
administrative positions available for those individuals who want to
take on additional leadership roles within the organization. More

Volunteer with the Muscular Dystrophy Association
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is in search of fun and
enthusiastic volunteer summer camp counselors. The MDA’s 2013 summer
camp will be held August 10-16, 2013 at Camp De Wolfe in Wading River,
NY.  Must be 18 years or older. This is a great opportunity for students
interested in Physical Therapy.
Each counselor is assigned to serve as a companion for a camper who’s
affected by a neuromuscular disease. Counselors help their campers with
daily activities such as feeding, bathing, dressing, and in recreational
activities such as arts, crafts, bowling, swimming and fishing.

Chronic Pain Management Doctor’s Assistant Positions beginning in May/June
2013
Brooklyn Heights medical practice is seeking a mature and enthusiastic
team player for a doctor’s assistant position in a very busy pain
management practice.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who would like to gain
practical experience in a medical setting and is planning to take 1-2
years off while applying to medical school.  Most former assistants have
gone on to medical school.

Job Description:
In this full-time job, you will work intimately with the doctor and
patients.  You will conduct patient interviews and assist the doctor in
minor procedures (primarily spinal injections).  As an assistant, you
will also function as a liaison between the doctor, patients, and
outside healthcare professionals.   Other responsibilities include
composing and editing evaluation reports and various letters to
physicians on behalf of the doctor, as well as learning about running a
private medical practice.  

You will be joining a team of four assistants and three office staff
members.
Health insurance benefits will be provided. 

Candidacy:
A bachelor’s degree and the completion of premedical coursework or
completion of a post-baccalaureate premedical program is required prior
to beginning position.  
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required.  
Excellency in typing is required.

You must demonstrate the ability to learn how to use an electronic
health records website quickly and efficiently.
