Assistant to the Director of the Columbia University Department of Psychiatry's New York State Psychiatric Institute Residents' Clinic
Job Description

*        Assistant to an Associate Clinical Professor at Columbia University Medical Center who is also the Director of Columbia University's New York State Psychiatric Institute Residents' Clinic (PIRC), an outpatient psychiatric training clinic for 36 Columbia adult psychiatry residents

*        Full-time salaried position with excellent health benefits

*        Serve as crucial member of the Clinic's administrative team (made up of Clinic Director, two attending psychiatrists, and Assistant to the Director)

*        Perform administrative/clerical tasks (examples include: preparing materials for classes, interacting with technology departments, maintaining Director's calendar and large amounts of sensitive clinical information)

*        Coordinate and prepare for all new patient evaluations conducted by residents

*        Assist the Clinic Director with:

o   Overseeing the recruitment of all patients accepted for treatment in the Clinic

o   Monitoring individual caseloads of third and fourth year residents for diversity with respect to diagnoses and treatment modalities

o   Preparing for and coordinating courses that Director teaches to residents

o   Ensuring a safe handoff of patients between incoming and outgoing residents each June

o   Orienting a new class of residents to the Clinic each July

*        Maintain Clinic Director's calendar and schedule meetings between Clinic Director and patients, residents, and other faculty members



Clinical Experience

*        Learn how a psychiatric clinic operates and what it is like to be a health care worker

*        Have direct contact with patients and learn the basics of assessing patients for psychiatric treatment

*        Work closely with experienced psychiatrists and psychiatry residents

*        Attend Grand Rounds lectures, clinical case conferences, and clinical meetings


Ideal Candidate

*        1-2 year commitment; flexible start date beginning October 2017

*        Interest in psychiatry and mental health; planning on a career in healthcare

*        Patient, empathic and personable

*        Strong organizational skills

*        Familiarity with New York City is a plus
