It's no shave November!

Each day, 22,000 people die from cancer worldwide (WHO<http://www.who.int/cancer>). There's a good chance that someone you know and love will be affected by this disease. Nearly half of cancer diagnoses and deaths are preventable. No-Shave November's mission is to not only raise funds for cancer research and treatment but to educate the population about preventative measures.

For over five years, participants around the globe have put down their razors and foregone their hair appointments to join the fight against cancer. The No-Shave November campaign has successfully raised over $2 million dollars to combat this disease. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer in our efforts to fund cancer research and education, help prevent the disease, and aid those fighting the battle. Each whisker grown allows us to embrace our hair, which many cancer patients lose during treatment.

Donate the moneyz you'd normally spend on shaving supplies for this awareness campaign! And if you need motivation,

Totes For Hope

We are collaborating with the Pre-Dental Society. We would collect personal care items and make a care package for local veterans in need. Items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, deodorant, combs, washcloths, soap, are acceptable items. They can be travel size or regular size.

The items will go to the Veteran's shelter in Queens and can be dropped off at the Red Cross office so a Regional Program Specialist of Service to the Armed Forces can deliver them.

A box will be in the Pre-Dental Room (TH112) for donated items.

You may contact us or Jimmy @ [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> for further information.

5. New York Common Pantry

We are collaborating with New York Common Pantry for the Thanksgiving Season.

Every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, our Choice Pantry Program, New York City’s largest community-based food pantry, allows its thousands of participants to choose culturally appropriate, nutritionally balanced food packages. This model empowers our Pantry members to be active participants in the distribution process by encouraging them to pick the nutritious food they would like to receive. Pantry members can order their food in advance via the Common Pantry’s website or order on-site by using wireless touch-screen tablets. Volunteers pack each bag according to each Pantry member's specifications with selections in each of the major food groups.

If any of you are interested in volunteering throughout the semester on any of these days, please e-mail us. If we can get about 5-10 people with mutual interested days, we can arrange a group volunteering event to help serve dinner at the New York Common Pantry.

Mondays:

·  4:00PM-6:30PM: Help serve dinner (8-10 volunteers)

Wednesdays:

·  4:00PM-6:30PM: Help serve dinner

Fridays:

·  4:00PM-6:30PM: Help serve dinner

6. Home Fire Preparedness Campaign

A home fire can strike anywhere, anytime. They leave families without their homes, personal belongings and, in the worst cases, cause serious injury and death. In NYC last year, 300 people were rescued from burning buildings, while more than 70 people died as a result of fires. Your participation will ensure that more New Yorkers receive critical Fire Safety Education and are safer when it comes to home fire!

Our team is running Daily Installation shifts every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The club could take ownership of one of these shifts for one or multiple dates and supply the volunteer teams. Overall, for a full shift we need: 1 Supervisor, 3 Team Leaders, and 6 Technicians (serving as Educators, Documenters, or Installers). Of that team we need at least 3 Authorized Drivers to get the teams out to the neighborhoods and appointments they will be completing. We, of course, can provide training and the materials the teams need for the installations.

Below are the dates and details for the upcoming Daily Installation Shifts

  *   Thur, Nov 12, 3pm-9pm: Manhattan

  *   Sun, Nov 15, 9am-5pm: Manhattan

  *   Thur, Nov. 19, 3pm-9pm: Bronx

  *   Sat, Nov 21, 9am-5pm: Bronx

  * Sun, Nov 22, 9am-5pm: Borough not yet confirmed

  * Sat, Nov 28, 9am-5pm: Borough not yet confirmed

  * Sun, Nov 29, 9am-5pm: Borough not yet confirmed

PLEASE USE THIS LINK TO CHOOSE THE DATES YOU ARE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO. A team will be formed once we reach the required 6 volunteers.
