Volunteer Goal and Overview

     Are you interested in seeing how a top surgical center runs, engaging in a meaningful service to patients and families, and sharpening your communication skills while preparing for your

career in medicine? We have an exciting volunteer opportunity to be part of the daily operations of the nation's top, #1 hospital in Orthopedics. You will learn the scope of the entire perioperative process in Ambulatory Surgery, from admission to discharge, while creating an excellent experience for patients/visitors through service, communication & empathy. Engage with both

            clinical & non-clinical staff.

Experiences

*         Provide detailed and timely communication regarding surgical process

*         Liaise with surgeons, nurses, patients & families

*         Communicate detailed and HIPPA compliant information to families about patient's surgical status, location, post-operative visitation & discharge logistics

*         Assist with patient check-in

*         Describe surgical process, visitation guidelines, electronic status board, and distribute visitor passes

*         Assist nursing staff in Pre-Operative and Post-Operative units

*         Retrieve family members for visitation to clinical areas

*         Maintain cleanliness and order of equipment, beds & linens; support nursing staff

*         Round on waiting families

*         Inform families of free WiFi, cell phone charging stations, cafeteria location, local restaurants; identify patient/visitor concerns

*         Administer satisfaction surveys via iPad at patients' bedsides for real-time feedback and our immediate response

*         Answer phone calls

*         Provide HIPPA compliant communication to patient escorts

*         Build close relationships with other departments and collaborate with respective areas to accommodate patient's needs.
