Subject: Planned Parenthood internship: another one

 

Fall 2008/Winter 2009 

Planned Parenthood of New York City Advocacy & Media Intern 

Reports to: Public Affairs Staff 

 

For more than 90 years, Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) has been
a beacon of hope for the thousands of women, teens, and families who rely on
us for essential reproductive health care, innovative educational programs,
and effective advocacy. The work of our advocacy and organizing department
encourages public and political support for reproductive health and rights. 

This internship will support our advocacy and media outreach work. 

 

Duties: 

. Assist in marketing of activist events, including visibility events,
fundraising events, and educational forums 

. Help develop, manage, and create content for PPNYC Blog and online social
networking sites - i.e. Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. 

. Assist in cultivating and implementing general online grassroots
recruitment tactics 

. Research relevant reporters 

. Assist in building media lists 

. Help draft press releases, advisories and other media materials 

. Assist with some media pitching 

. Monitor daily news headlines and blogs 

. Other duties as assigned 

 

Requirements: interest in journalism, politics, health, new media and
women's issues; excellent writing, research and computer skills; commitment
to reproductive rights; familiarity with Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter
interface as well as various blog platforms; superb at multi-tasking and
prioritizing. 

 

Hours: 15+ per week 

Hours are flexible, but preferably Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 

Unpaid
