Health Services Research Team: Improving Lifestyle and Weight Management in Primary Care

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Assistant.


Areas of Experience: The successful candidate will have experience in 4-5 of the following areas (in your cover letter, please reference and describe areas in which you have experience):

*         Developing or maintaining study databases

*         Developing study measurements and administration of surveys

*         Data entry and monitoring procedures

*         Conducting regular audits of the data to ensure its accuracy and integrity

*         Reporting on data; participation in study meetings

*         Literature searches and literature reviews

*         Developing data-oriented presentations

*         Creating bibliographies and reference lists to support grants and/or papers

*         To qualify you must have knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office. It is preferable to have experience with higher-level statistics software (e.g. STATA, SAS, SPSS)

Areas of Interest:
A competitive applicant will have a strong interest in research with experience in at least 1-2 of the following or other areas relevant to our research projects (in your cover letter, please reference and describe areas in which you are interested):

-          Preparation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) or grant materials/applications

-          Abstract/manuscript/presentation development

-          Lifestyle Counseling or Health Coaching (with patients preferred)

-          Behavioral Interventions (in primary care preferred)

-          Participant recruitment (phone-calls, consenting)

-          Quantitative data analysis (Excel, SPSS/SAS)

-          Qualitative data analysis (coding, thematic analysis)

-          Computer programming (HTML5, PHP, ColdFusion)

-          Graphic design/Front-end web design

Benefit: This is an opportunity to gain experience working on a critical issue in healthcare and benefit from working with research team members of diverse, interdisciplinary backgrounds.  Research team members have many opportunities to be trained and mentored by more senior team members, lead analyses on different datasets, as well as attend conferences and lectures at NYU School of Medicine and the Manhattan VA.  Past research team members have gone on to medical school, doctoral programs, post-doctoral programs, or paid research coordinator positions.

Compensation: These are unpaid part-time research positions. Current funding cannot be promised at this time, but a stipend and/or paid position might become available. Research team members may have the opportunity to be authors on abstracts and manuscripts depending on involvement with preparation. Senior Research Assistants also have the opportunity to supervise junior research team members. Upon completion of the internship, research team members can fulfill practicum requirement or gain academic credit (must be discussed prior to start of internship), and/or receive letters of recommendation for graduate school and job placement.

Please note that due to the extensive on-boarding process, expect at least 1-2 months to process all hiring materials before official start date. However, once offered a position on the team, you will be able to attend team meetings (currently Monday mornings) and take part in basic training while your hiring paperwork is processed.
