Subject: IDEAL JOB OPPORTUNITY - MEDICAL FIELD - DOCTOR'S ASSISTANT PLANNING
ON MEDICAL SCHOOL

To whom it may concern:

I am writing to you regarding a job opportunity I have in my office that
would be ideal for a postbaccaluareate premedical student taking a glide
year or a premed student who is taking a year off before medical school.

I am a pain management interventional anesthesiologist with a very busy
practice in Brooklyn Heights, NY. I employ three doctor's assistants, and
have been doing so for the past six years. The three assistants are
responsible for the day-to-day functions of the office. This includes
speaking to the patients, taking histories, assisting in minor surgeries,
following up with patients, dealing with insurance companies....obviously
there is a great deal of patient contact. All of the doctor's assistants
have gone on to medical school. This is an ideal glide year opportunity.
If anyone is interested in the position, they should send their resume/CV
(in the body of an email) and a cover letter to the following email:

The job posting is attached to this email and is below in the body of the
email.

Please advise students to read the description and follow the directions on
how to apply.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Grant S. Jones in
my office. If you are not the direct contact person of whom this email
should be directed, please forward to the appropriate person/department.

In advance, I thank you very much.

Respectfully,
Mathew Lefkowitz, MD

Doctor's Assistant (April 2009)

This Brooklyn Heights medical practice is seeking a mature, reliable,
respectful, personable team player for a doctor's assistant position in a
busy private-practice office.

This is an ideal glide year opportunity for someone who is or will be
applying to medical school.

Job Description:

In this full-time job, you will work intimately with the doctor and
patients-conducting interviews and assisting the doctor in minor surgeries.
The assistant will also function as a liaison among the doctor, patients,
and outside healthcare professionals. He/She will also compose and edit
initial evaluation reports and various letters to physicians on behalf of
the doctor, as well as learn how to verify insurance and request
authorization from insurance companies. You will be joining a team of three
assistants.

We provide health insurance.

All previous assistants have matriculated into medical school. This is not
a typical medical assistant position.

Ideal Candidate:

You must possess the ability to relate well with patients and have a strong
medical background. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is or will
be applying to medical school (possibly during a glide year). A bachelor's
degree in a science-related field (e.g. biology, chemistry, psychology) or
completion of a post-baccalaureate premedical program is required.

You must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be
well-spoken. You must be responsible, hard-working, and respectful.

How to Apply:

Send a copy of your resume/CV in the body of an email (i.e. not as an
attachment), and include a brief letter expressing your interest and why you
are a good candidate for this position to the following address:
